Help Please!
Okay, so the line for my oil pressure gauge broke, I fixed that. In the process of fixing it though, I had to remove the distributor cap. After reinstalling everything, I started the truck to check for oil leaks and instead I came across a "ticking" sound while it was running. I tried driving it uphill (i live on a hill) and it started to "gallop" if I true going over 15 MPH. What could be causing this? My first guess would be that when I replaced the cap, I didn't align it correctly. All spark plugs, and electrical connections are exactly where they are prior to me removing the cap.

Sounds to me like one or more of your wires aren't back on good, or you didn't get the cap seated right.

The ticking noise may be a wire arcing out. But thats just a guess.

yup check the cap is seated and the wires are in and on all the way
make sure the clip didn't come/pull/break loose inside

if everything outside looks good, pop the cap off and check your rotor. may have loosened up.

Okay, I pulled the cap off again last night and I think I got it seated the right way. How do I tighten the motor if it came loose?

Okay, I got the cap seated right and the wires all plugged correctly. I noticed though, that one of the wires was harder to install than the others, so I touched the boot of that wire so it'd make better contact with the spark plug and it zapped me. Could this wire be the culprit?

Yes it could be if you get bit by a wires id replaced it i had one time gone off road and pulling a hill i had the same problem you did the wire ad come off the plug on the head and gor me i took a scre driver or plies and adjusted the clip and made it stay tighter but it sound like you have an insulation leak there you can get single wires or a hole kit depends on what you want to do

Okay. I'm a go pick up some new wires right now because according to me dad they were "replaced" along with the spark plugs, but its the same wires from when I first bought the truck.

Check timing i had a simialr problem and wracked my bran i had no advance the mechanical weights were rusted stoped

Okay, so I checked the way I wired the plugs to the distributor with the diagram in my chilton repair manual and apparently I had 2 plugs wired wrong. This could also be causing misfires right?

yes that def causes them if it still occours take the cap and rotor off leave the wires attachet to the cap the you grab the shaft or weigths were the springs are and see if the pivot and are free if not soak them in penatratin oil and see if ythey will break loose if not get a new distribtor make sue the lil springs are ok and there i know this is a pita for a 17 year old im 19 and just did this crap and it was a pita even for me being a mechanic some times all the hassel and frustraion gets the best of you

he is thinking under the rotor there are weights
that advance and retard the spark by the vacume increase of the engine you may have seen them(look like half moons almost) he is thinking they might be rusted tight(mine were too) but it just made mine pick up slow....or slow to speed up but the two plugs wrong would make a big difference when right

Update: It idles fine, starts right up, but it only misses when I'm driving. I can rev it in park and its fine, but when I drive it, it misses.

Well I decided to "grow a pair" and took it for a drive around the block. She made it up the hill and around the block pretty easily. I did hear a scratching sound after I floored it on a straight away. Parked her in the drive way and noticed oil pressure dropped some.
