lowering 71 burb w/78' front A's
I just bought a 71 burb. The guy put a 78' burb front end in and also swapped the rear axle for the 78'. I looking to go as low as I can with spindles and rear coils unless I can get into bags resonably. I plan on running 17x8s and driving it long distances to show and events so I need a all around height. I was think about a 3/4 drop. Any suggestions?

You can do a 3/4 drop just by changing the springs and shocks. GMCPauls and a few other vendors have drop spring kits that are reasonably priced.

http://www.gmcpauls.com/lowering_springs_&_parts.htm I would recommend drop spindles with 1" springs in the front over 3" springs, 3" drop springs ride rougher, bottom out easy, and are a bear to get alignment correct and sometimes require off-set ball joints to achieve proper alignment ( which are extremely $$$$$ ) and that much drop in front using springs only can cause bump steer. The spindle/spring combination gives a much nicer ride and front end alignment is a piece of cake. Heres a pic of a 3 1/2" front & 4" rear drop on our 67 Chevy Panel If you want to sit level use only 2" front springs or 2 1/2" spindles or drop the rear 5". By the way if your the gentleman Les spoke with yesterday I would make certain that your front end is from a 78 Burb as 1971 Suburbans came stock with 5 lug rotors so the previous owner did not have to swap a 5 lug 78 front end under it to get 5 lug bolt pattern on the wheels, the rotors are the same from 1971-87 on 1/2 ton 2wd, all are a 5 lug on 5" pattern and use identical bearings, pads, etc>>>> on brakes so their was no reason to swap by previous owner. i just lowered my new addition 71 burb 1/2 ton
2.5 in spindles 2in coil and a 6in coil rear. rides great but yes the weight of the burb you do need to notch it.. i'll get some pics on if you wanna see? i've got 15x8 ralleys and 255/60 in the front and 275/60's in the rear.
