Help me choose the Correct VIN Plate/ID Plate

Is this the correct Vin Plate for my 1965 short bed fleet side?

If not please show me what Chevorlet installed in the door jam (Or something close as close to original as possible) Mine is missing.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...item5d30054310

I need a vin plate but not sure what or where to buy one?

Re: Help me choose the Correct VIN Plate/ID Plate

Did you read the whole discription? The orginal "data" plate didn't have a vin # !! You should just call the DMV and find out where your frame # should be and see if it matchs. If it does they may or may not put a new Vin tag on your body

Re: Help me choose the Correct VIN Plate/ID Plate

like said before, your vin plate on your 65 is centered in the door jam on the drivers side, like pictured. the plate your refering to is the GVRW plate on the DS kick panel.

VIN will also be on frame, drivers side right behind the motor mount. well, some of the VIN will be there, last 8 I think.

Depending on your state laws, you may not want to try anything tricky with a lost VIN. It would probably pay to be up front with the DMV and do as they direct you, or risk a heap of trouble. If you haven't already, go in and ask about it first, and take it from there. my .02

Do you need to get a tag or title or something? otherwise you cannot buy a vin tag unless the dmv issues one- this could be a hassel? you could pop one off from a local junkyard and use it if you are trying to get it titled

^ I agree with this.

Summerj,
Why not use the VIN on you frame?

I know in California you can't use VIN's from a junk yard becuase all junked vehicles are required to have junk slips turned in to the DMV, I don't know if this goes for all states or not, but it's just something to consider.

Good advice.

Oregon Scrap yards and wrecking yards require a title. The VIN off of a wrecking yard vehicle belongs to that vehicle.

X2

If the VIN tag on the cab is missing, talk to your local DMV.

No matter which state you live in, it is against the law to switch VIN tags.

Smile Re: Help me choose the Correct VIN Plate/ID Plate

OK Thanks guys.

Got it all figured out. Found the Vin stamped in the frame near motor mount.
Ordered a new repo GVW id tag that goes in the Drivers side near door jamb.

I now understand that this tag is not infact the "Vin Plate" but a Gross Vehicle Weight plate or Some call it a " ID Tag" It has various Build Info on it that also includes and some had the "Vin # on them.

The VIN # is Stamped into The Frame near drivers side motor mount and that's what the State recognizes/goes by.

Thank You all that were able to help.

Re: Help me choose the Correct VIN Plate/ID Plate

the VIN is also riveted to the driver's side door sill at the top - does yours have that? Do they match? I would submit that the riveted tag takes precedence over the frame one - folks do frame swaps, etc. If you have no VIN tag on the cab, then your frame VIN could be used as proof to get a new VIN tag with DMV's help - if you know (or at least can guess) that the frame and cab have not parted ways at some point.
