I love laying under my truck.

Today I wanted to relax so I laid under my truck. And...... Found my brake line rubbing, loose exhaust mount, loose trailing arm u-bolt. It felt a little different the last few days but now I feel a ton better. Just such a good feeling being under it.

Don't forget about "lock out tag out". Can't have the wife going on a frisky grocery run while you're catching a cat nap under your junk.

Re: I love laying under my truck.

1) i like the fact that i can "lay under" it without jacking it up.

2) Be very careful about laying under your truck in an enclosed area(such as closed garage) near the rear for obvious reasons.

Me too. It's the getting up and down off the floor that's the hard part.

i think wearing shorts helps---the idea is to get as light as possible. Of course, is this the best thing to wear when working on a truck? Probably not.

Cardboard also helps.

Re: I love laying under my truck.

Yes, we are not teen-agers anymore; Not carrying alot of junk in your pockets i think helps too.

Maybe try knee pads which you can get at depot or harbour for cheap.

Slippers and shorts not the best thing for working on the car (even you, Daisy), but you got to do what you got to
do. The shorts really helps with mobility though.

P.S. My uncle has SERIOUS back problems--to the point where he's basically disabled and can't work anymore directly attributed to being a BOP line mechanic (mostly B) for 12 yrs. So this is just something else we need to be aware of.

Actually, this is a very interesting and important topic and i think i would like to start another thread concerning it.

Wanna come over and lay under mine for a while? You can put the tranny and T case back in while you are there. I'm tired of seeing the underside of mine.

Re: I love laying under my truck.

Hey,, another dunes addict Glamis? Headed over there Veterans day weekend for the first trip to see if my new pile of junk can hold up
http://www.small-block-chevy.com/ima.../ricochet1.JPG

But in the meantime.... laying on my back under the truck!!!
I just got the motor back in the 66, and have a oil pump issue (pump shaft is binding on bore in the the rear main once the distributor is in). Managed to get the pan down enough to pull the scraper tray, and then I can get the pump off. Apparently the Little M rear main doesn't like the diameter of the ARP oil pump shaft just before it necks down (stepped shaft for the 400 blocks) it is just enough to say it's not 'right'
WHY didn't I catch this when I was assembling the motor!!!!! Didn't feel anything wrong when it was all going together,, but it's not right,, I can SEE that it's not right now that I have 'felt' the tightness in the pump. Going to chuck the shaft up in a lathe and trim the 'neck down' about 0.030" closer to the pump end so there is clearance.
Is it a Dart problem with the rear main???, or a ARP problem with the position of the neck-down on the shaft???,,, nope, it's MY problem for not checking it before the now!!!!!! I know better. Had a similar issue with the Motown block in the Nova and a Titian pump shaft. Just tight enough that is it WRONG!!!

Laying on my back, under the truck, with the pan only 1/2 way down because it won't clear the chassis and crank to come all the way off is NOT the preferred way to do this task unfortunately!!!!!

Re: I love laying under my truck.

We're all getting a little older....pt.2 The getting up and down thing:

i think my mom had her first "i've fallen and i can't get up situation!" i wasn't there---i just heard about it. It was in the women's restroom of all places at a restaurant. Normally, she's pretty healthy but i think she was very tired and dizzy from flying all day----my folks went overseas on vacation---which is why i wasn't there and just heard about it.

The cleaning lady couldn't get her up so apparently they had to call my dad to help. Like i said i just head about it and don't know the details and don't really want to know the details..........

So what i'm thinking of doing and suggesting is to just every day when convenient just sit or even lie on the floor, maybe on carboard, and just stand up. Do this 10 times at first. And then maybe 20 and so on and so on. Maybe do it to music---one song on the radio.

It will then probably get easy.

We should really start a new thread.....
