I've made an integrated 3rd brake light
out of my original cargo light.
Just took a 4" red LED strip, attached it to the top of the lens, wired it into the white wire on the brake light switch, and viola. And of course the cargo light still works! However, it does flash with the hazards, but I never use those [knock on wood] LOL

Re: I've made an integrated 3rd brake light
Very cheap. Cost me $15 for the two 4" LED strips at AutoZone, and I have one left for... whatever! I had the extra wire left over from a light I scrapped and the crimps/connectors are thanks to my job.
I thought about ditching the bulb and going with two 4" white LED strips for the cab light, but i'm iffy about it.

Re: I've made an integrated 3rd brake light
almost didnt pass my driving test when I had to argue with the driving instructor that my cargo lamp was NOT a 3rd brake light, and it was an older guy who shoulda known too, looks like a great idear!

Re: I've made an integrated 3rd brake light
Just performed this same upgrade! The 11 year old daughter helped me run the wires and screwed the cargo light cover on and off. It's bright - and safe. Thanks for the great tip!!

Re: I've made an integrated 3rd brake light
Great idea! This has to be the easiest, cheapest, and most simple way to do this.

Re: I've made an integrated 3rd brake light
Love the brake light!
I also been thinking about getting rid of the clear cargo bulb for some LED strips. It looks funny when it is on since the bulbs offset and people always tell me one of my lights is burned out, and I tell em it only has one. |
