Dropmember rear trailing arm clearance

hey everyone,
Just need some imput. I am putting 24" wheels on the back of my 70c10 and have Porterbuilt's trailing arm kit. Ive narrowed the axle 2" per side and have replaced with 2" narrower axles from Moser......my question is will a 24x12 with a 4" backspace clear? I think it will being that the kit is designed to clear up to 10" as is, being that I have removed 2" of the axle each side should allow me to add 2" of backspace the wheels.....so instead of the common 10" wide wheels with a 4" backspace I want to do a 12" wide wheel with a 4" back space. I dont want to do the Inboard set up for the super wide 14" plus bridge that Porterbuilt make but want to max out the full potential of the rear. I can narrow the rear more if needed but from what I figure that should not be needed.....I need to let the wheel manufacture know so they can get to building. The front also should be a 22x8.5 with a 5" backspace or 5.5?

Up front,... I believe the desired BS on a 8.5" wide wheel is 5.25".

I think member n2billet has a 22x10 with 5.5" BS on his sweet '67 Dropmember equipped truck.
That translates to a 7.5" BS on a 12 in rim.
Narrow the axle 2" per side,... and that brings you back to 5.5" BS for your application.

So I would say 4" BS on your 24x12's won't work.

I got 24x10 on my 65 and lower 5in if thats helps any.

I ordered a set of 22x8.5 a couple of months ago, the 5.25 will work but Nate(porterbuilt) told me to totally clear and not have to hack too much of the fender a 5.5 would be better, they should be in any time now and I will post them up as soon as I can

I need to talk to nate but he has been out of town....but i just dont want to change the upper set up I have being that its powdercoated and the bag mounts are already welded in place....I dont want some 24x15 crazy stuff like that but would like to have a large lip and pref. 8" or even 7" would be fine so its not such a dramatic difference from front to back. Right now I guess im looking at 24x10 with a 4" b.s unless I can convence the wheel manufacture to do like a 3.5" backspace. and the front i wanted to ask nate his opinion on that as well. I dont want that "pro street" look but definetly want that noticible difference from front to back. I may just end up changeing the entire rear set up if neeed so I dont have the bags on the axle. but thats under wraps right now.

But i also have a impala ss rear end and it not as wide. Are u hiting the frame, outer finders or what

no im not hitting anything but i am not going to have my wheel manuf. make the rears without knowing that the width and backspace is correct. I was hoping that someone knew the widest wheel with a 4" b.s would fit. and with a narrowed rear total of 4" would only help.....seems to be some crazy question i guess.....im just not dropping this kind of money on something that "might work" I guess I will just have to go with some type of different rear set up or do the inboard bridge Nate makes, I just wanted to stay away from that due to ride quality. I have some plans if trully nothing more than a 24x10 with a 4" back space narrowed 70 12bolt will work. I want more than 6 inches of lip on the rear. I guess I don't understand.

Why don't you just measure and see what fits?
Measure the overall width.
We know a 10" wide rim will fit.
12" rim will be tight,... but can probably work with the correct backspace.

If you are stuck on having a 4" BS,... then narrowing the rearend to the correct width will be your answer.
Just remember that a 10" wide wheel is actually 11" wide outside to outside.

Like I said before,... n2billet has a 22x10 under his '67.
So a 24x10 will fit.
n2billet has the stock 67-69 rearend housing.
Yours is 2" narrowed (per side),... but what year housing is it?
71-72?

I still say the best bet is to measure,... for your own wheels.

N2Billet also did other mods to ensure his combo worked on his truck. If I recall, both tub & bedside mods were required.

its a 71-72 rear ....actually a 70 but measured originally as the longer version
the 4" b.s is so I can have the most lip on the rim without changing the rear set up i have.....push comes to shove I will run the inboard set up so inner clearance is not an issue.

I didn't modify the bedsides but I did have to trim the bed floor on both sides (mainly for piece of mind, it's close). When you go this low keep in mind that your bedside get narrower at the top so you may need a little more backspacing to clear.......like everyone said, put it all together and get out the tape measure.
