Tri-Five Spare Tire Bracket Dimensions??
Does anyone have any information (measurements) of the spare tire fender bracket for a tri-five 3100. I want to keep the recesed fendr and run the spare but do not have the bracket. I've been looking for one that someone wants to sell but have had no luck. I think I may just have to build one. Any help is appreciated.

Mke sure you get one for a 55-57 because the later ones are slightly different.

My Dad has one on his 1951 (with 52 and 53 parts on it) 3100. It sat at my house for a few weeks before we trailered it to his place. I bet I measured that thing half a dozen times to see if it would fit. I'm pretty sure he would have found it missing if it had.

it took me as long to get all the pieces on my spare tire carrier as it did to get the bed together. way too many pieces to bolt together in impossible places without scratching paint... i modified my spare bracket to carry a wider 5 lug wheel. had to move the mount out 1/2'' to accommodate the wider tire, i used a piece of 1/2'' plate, drilled to 5 lug pattern. also had to shorten the top legs 1'' to fit my tonneau cover on the bed. this pic shows the old studs and the new bolt pattern. i welded everything up, cut off the studs, inseted new studs and welded them from the back. the hole in the center matches the original bracket and lightened the plate a lot. and the finished product

with all the guys on here that claim to hate side mounted spares... you'd think there'd be a dozen post saying ''i'll send you mine'' i thought all 55-59's were the same. i know that the 3200 has a lower spare, less cut out in the fender, longer step and different bracket. and the long beds had no fender cut out, just a spare bracket over the step. fender mount and fender were a factory installed option, according to a friend of mine that started at a dealership in 57. i think they're sexy, RRRrrrRRRrrrr

dcmalone: if you don't find a bracket, i suggest building your own out of square stock, mounted off the frame. either up thru the bed or thru the bed side and rail. waaaay too many parts to fab up and make for what it does. there has to be a better way than the way gm did it. looking thru the factory assembly manual, there was also a 3/8'' shim on the left side of the axle to keep that side from sagging... really, a 3/8 shim.
