ceramic pads, your opinion?
so about two months ago i spent money on some nice top of the shelf o'riely ceramic pads for my truck
the no brake dust on my tt2's is nice but, it seems like during the summer if the pads got just a little to hot they fade damn quick and smell pretty bad when you brake hard then stop and get out now during the winter they work great anybody else think ceramics are a bunch of ? or is just me expecting to much for consistan pads? i have half vacuume from a big cam but even so when your driving there is enough to make full functioning brakes

Re: ceramic pads, your opinion?
First I've heard of that, I thought they had superior stopping power in any situation but wore the rotors faster.

Re: ceramic pads, your opinion?
I thought I saw an ad somewhere that ceramics were the choice of nascar? I'm trying EBC next time.

Re: ceramic pads, your opinion?
Over the last few years (maybe, 40?) I've tried about every type of pad/shoe out there. Metallica, ceramic, etc. etc. I've finally settled on stock type pads/shoes for the simple reason that they're designed for everyday driving in everyday traffic. If you're going to go racing it's a whole different story. I've never had to replace any shoes/pads after the first time. Even with daily driving they always last me until I trade or sell the car/truck.

Re: ceramic pads, your opinion?
For what my opion is worth, I have had better luck and wear with the cheaper pads than the higher priced ones. I haven't noticed any difference in stopping or fadeing between the different grade of pads.

Re: ceramic pads, your opinion?
I went with ceramic on my 01 silverado. It has 4 wheel disks and the parts guy said the ceramic was what was stock. I don't have a problem with fade or anything like that, they stop great, but they squeal, even with the spray on goop you put behind the pads. I finally got them to only lightly squeal but squeal they do. Never had that problem with non ceramic. I even changed the rotors and checked the runout. still squeal.

Re: ceramic pads, your opinion?
well when i go to the track after a couple of corners the brakes are done and even when its cold outside so its seems the heat range of the pads are for daily driving and and sunday drivers, so much for getting what you pay for, a 20$ set does the same thing above

Re: ceramic pads, your opinion?
In a DD vehicle, always use OEM brake material. If the vehicle calls for ceramic, use ceramic, calls for semi metallic use semi metallic, etc etc. Ceramics are always going to be a little noisier than other materials, I believe it is because ceramics are harder than other friction materials, been a while since I have looked at my modules that explain the differences.

Re: ceramic pads, your opinion?
For a good dozen years solid now I've been getting the mid-grade pads from the Zone. Lifetime replacement that I've never needed and only had one or two sets that squeaked a little before quieting down. But that blonde on the EBC commercial has me convinced I'm missing out on something somehow...

Re: ceramic pads, your opinion?
Ceramic pads sacrifice stopping power for lower dusting characteristics...semi-metallics wear the rotor more, but create better friction. Semi-metallic pads can be MANY different compounds, so not all semi-metallics are the same.

Re: ceramic pads, your opinion?
Personally I dislike ceramic pads for a DD vehicle. As stated above, they are noisy, hard on rotors, And if the rotor isn't 100% true, it will amplify the pulsation into the pedal 10X more then the others in my opinion. In my experience, I've found that the lower price pads, prove to work out the best for a daily. I've had very good luck with NAPA's OEM grade line TruStop, I believe?

Re: ceramic pads, your opinion?
I'm using AC Delco ceramics for the first time. They're noisy as hell but zero dust. I had the rotors turned when I went to these brakes, they still look fine. I've had zero issues with fade.
