Steering Column Lubrication
Hey guys, I have a 64 GMC 1/2 ton that has kind of a scraping sound in the steering column sometimes when I turn. I would love to get some lube in there, but not sure how to do it. Do you have to take the column out and take it all apart? Is there a way to lube without taking it out? Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Steering Column Lubrication
Sounds like your upper bearing is bad, pull the wheel and look at the upper bearing.

Re: Steering Column Lubrication
Pull horn cap off
Remove horn assembly Loosen steering nut Attach Steering wheel puller ($14 at pep boys. Get straight 2 bolt adapter) Remove steering wheel exposing the turn signal cam. The upper bearing is in the mechanism. If you want remove the 3 screws holding it in place. And remove the housing Behind is access to the steering shaft and other gear.... Clean and lubricate. I needed to replace my upper bearing($20) and ended up just replacing my whole turn signal mechanism($39) it helped clean up the play in my column and smoothness in steering. Posted via Mobile Device
