6 cylinder tach
Is there such a thing? My cousin is building a highly optioned 6 cylinder truck. He has all the pieces but neither of us has ever seen a 6 cylinder truck with a tach, even though we have both owned many 67-72s, and been around these trucks since they were new. He wants to know if he should continue his search.

Re: 6 cylinder tach
Here are some links that will help you ID a tach if you find one. I only remember ever seeing one and it was in a C40.

Yes, They are out there. I have been playing with these trucks for the better part of 30 years and I have only run across three 6 cylinder tachs.
Here is the part number to help you out......#6468321 |

Re: 6 cylinder tach
alot of your old Sun tachs are multi cylinder just pull it apart and ther is a switch inside that is marked 4-6-8 and you just switch it to whatever you have .

Re: 6 cylinder tach
Hey, thanks for the quick info guys. I will keep my eyes open on the parts boards for one.
1968ratrod, thanks, but this is a resto, so looking for a factory tach. FYI, most aftermarket tachs have either a switch or wires you can cut for multi-cylinder use

Re: 6 cylinder tach
A 69 3/4 ton chevy 4x4 that is for sale locally has a factory 292 6 cyl in it and it has the factory tach. Truck was bought new by a rural fire dept and they later sold it to a friend of the guy that is selling it. I was thinking of buying it but it has no title and his friend tried getting the title from the fire dept but said they didn't think they had ever titled it or if they did, they have no clue where it is at. Truck only has 13,000 original miles but is in kind of rough shape from sitting outside for years and it does not run.

Re: 6 cylinder tach
6 cyl tachs and V-8 tachs both go to 5K rpms. The mechanical driven diesel tachs went to 4K. The 8K ones are aftermarket or a camaro conversion.

Re: 6 cylinder tach
He wants a $1,000 for the truck. It would make a good parts truck because it has all of the heavy duty 4x4 drivetrain. He said the bed is rusted out from having the water tank back there. There are dents on the passenger side and the rockers and cab corners are rusted. He didn't think the floor boards were too bad. Truck sits up a little high like it has a lift on it but he said it's not. It has a 14 leaf rear spring and the front probably has a bunch too. The front frame horns are gone from whatever they had mounted on the front of the truck at one time. Cab has the factory cab lights on it. I'm still thinking of buying it for future use.
Here are some pics of the truck and tach dash. Wayne |

Re: 6 cylinder tach
Eric I think he is refering to the new aftermarket 8k tach dash set in this link. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=455559 As far as the 6 cyl. tachs go I have been fooling with these trucks for 25 years and have only run across two.

Re: 6 cylinder tach
I am sure there are other tachs that would fit with some work, but if you want original you will have to hope you get lucky and find one. I have only seen a handful of original 6 cyl tachs in my day.

Re: 6 cylinder tach
Surprisingly the last few i have seen were very reasonable. Sometimes unbelieveable. (e-bay 140659700622) You just so seldom see them, but it is a limited market also. I would say they bring similar money to a nice v-8 tach normally.
