would these heads fit on a 305?

Hi guyīs.

Would GM 14101128 heads(from a corvette) fit on a 305? I found a set dirt cheap, and started toying with the idea to replace the smog tops on the 305 in my truck. Have heard that they should give decent low end tourqe on 350īs.

Should fit, 350's and 305's share the same block iirc. I know of people who run 305 heads on 350s.

Good luck.

Thanks sethv.
Im a bit conserned about valve clearence, intake on these heads are 2,02" Im afraid that they might catch on the cylinder wall. I know that 1,94" will clear, just not sure about going bigger.

you will look some compresion ratio going from a 58cc head to a 64 cc head & on a 305, it needs to keep every advantage it has..

Re: would these heads fit on a 305?

Not sure I'd do this unless the 305 gets an overhaul first. Any time you break a seal on the long block assembly it's best to go through everything. That's been my experience. Think of it as a yin/yang philosophy, any time you add something new you take away something else.

I'm getting a Goodwrench 350 4-bolt crate and scrapping the 305, it hasn't been run in at least 10 years and not sure how well after sitting that long. To me it's not worth rebuilding or keeping esp. when a new crate is actually cheaper than rebuilding an older engine.

Re: would these heads fit on a 305?

The deal was to good to pass up, the heads are brand new still in their GM boxes. got them for 300$ (at least in my part of the woods thatīs a good deal) So if I donīt use them in the truck they can sit on the shelf until I find something to put them in.
I might swap for an LS later if I can find a good one here, or trade the truck for a 68 Firebird cab that I have my eyes on:-)

Go for it. If not sure call a machine shop. I don't agree with "Any time you break a seal on the long block assembly it's best to go through everything.

Here's a link to some heads that have been flowed as well as from some other sources.

It's up to you, of course. Just sharing my experience with engines. Any time I've done a new top end the rings failed.

2.02's will NOT clear the 305 bore.

Re: would these heads fit on a 305?

Even if the valves clear the cylinder wall without touching, you're going to encounter severe shrouding issues. Combined with the drop in compression you're going to kill your power, not increase it. I say definitely do not put those heads on a 305. You're going to do much more harm than good.
