not your usual drop spring question, just a general spring question?
so my truck has 3 inch drop springs and a 1/2ton swaybar up front
I take corners in my truck as if I drive a corvette and it shows I have had 4 pairs of tires on the front end in the last year due to the outsides wearing out but half the year was no camber or swaybar and now that I have alot of camber and a swaybar the outside tire edges last longer so my idea is maybe getting some new one ton springs and cutting coils to to lower it 3 inches again and have alot stiffer spring rate then i was going to go with a urethane 1 ton swaybar what do you guys think? right now im focused on keeping my wallet and truck level through the corners drop spindles and a rear swaybar are in the works right now to add better handling

I put Eibach springs, Doetch Tech shocks and a swaybar from a 1 ton truck on my old 65 shortbed. It handled great and surprised alot of people with the cornering. I wouldnt cut 1 ton springs. I dont think you will like the ride.

I want stiff, stiffer springs kill body roll this is why im thinking 1 ton springs from a dually will make a good cheap fix
its got some kyb's right now and im going get the drop spindles and bilstiens with the rear swaybar and return camber to -1.5* its aligned at 5*caster 1/8 toe in and -3* camber

I've had two sets of drop springs and both sets were too soft. I went to new stock springs and cut those. I know my truck handles far better with drop spindles and a coil cut than it did with just cut springs. My next move is moving the fr. sway bar up to the frame and then a rear sway bar.

keep the springs... so its still soft...

Don't want soft springs soft springs are great for a Cadillac. That's why they drive like boats. If I don't like how stiff the ride is well that's an excuse for super car seats

not exactly what i meant...
just that I'd try and keep the spring rate average, like keep it from bottoming out and diving a lot under heavy breaking.. and use a big big sway bar to keep it flat in the corners.

One ton sway bar should keep it even. And with a stiff spring rate and good shock ther should be no dive

I ran 1 ton diesel coils with a coil and a half cut off with a-arms we raised the ball joints up 2" on and ran a 1 ton sway bar mounted to the bottom of the frame rails. It handled pretty good for a truck 20yrs ago.

I upgraded my 3/4 ton's springs to HD 1-ton springs. Even though it's a couple inches higher than stock, it doesnt lean for crap in the turns. I've followed it while my buddy drove it and it doesnt look like it leans much at all. My lowered ford focus with huge sway bars leans way more in the corners than my truck does. If my truck was lowered with touring type tires on it, I bet it would stick to the road pretty dang good.
3/4 and 1 tons also have steel bushings in the front end; no rubber anywhere except the sway bar. there are also rear sway bars on some 3/4 and one ton trucks, might be able to find one cheap in the junkyard. If I ever run across one I'll snap it up for my own truck. |
