14 bolt ff rear disc brakes

Has anyone tried this 14 bolt rear disc setup? Any comments?

I have not done the swap yet, but I know your truck is a dually and I have a feeling that those will not work on a dually axle because the inside wheels will hit. Most of the disc brake kits for the 14bolts are for single wheel applications.

If it uses a stock 3/4 ton front rotor then I doubt that you could get it to work with the dual wheels.

I believe though a spacer is needed to a dually conversion.

Wanted to do it on dually also. But it cannot be done with dually 16" wheels. But it may be possible with 19" dually wheels for more clearance. Use 3/4 ton front rotor, elderado calipers to keep the ebrakes, or use a driveline ebrake.
Ruffstuff sells the bracket for the conversion (I allready purchased them) but they are not reccomended if you are towing.

even with SRW larger wheels are needed, mine are 16.5 and not much clearance. some people grind their calipers.

man I cant say with 100%

and when it comes to DRW i know even less, Im just remembering some of the stuff I ran across while doing my research, I cant speak from experience about 16" or DRW. When ur talking of this close of clearances the type and brand of wheel also come into play. Some are made thicker in areas then others.

Google some stuff and see what u can find from others that have done it.

Single wheels will work with caliper grinding.

Just did the conversion over the weekend, all though it was for SRW check out post #50 of my crusader build. if you need anything measured just let me know.

could you run a straight edge across the caliper and measure from the hub where the wheel slides on up the the straight edge? Then i could tell for sure if it will work.

Once again on the crusader build that is a SRW setup not a dually. If someone has a picture of a 16" DRW setup show it. NOT a SRW.

The poster is looking for the DRW setup.

from from the top of the caliper to the hub flange is 3 1/16 and from the face of hub flange to the front of the caliper is 1 5/8 and I have 16" wheels here is a pic of the back side. hope that helps you out. (even though I have SRW)

Dually wheel offsets need to be considered as well since they'll 'tuck' more vs the SRW wheel would. It might be good to measure from the axle housing flange to the lip of the wheel.

Looking @ the pics provided by each of you (mrhino & rs72z) it appears the DRW sits farther back vs the SRW so there might be caliper interference??

Just looking at the pics it appears that the caliper will be to far to the outside for a drw.
I have a 05 drw rearend that has disc brakes, but it's 2" wider than the 14bolt and has 4.10 gears wich i don't want. I might look into it a little futher.

I assumed the later model truck w/disc rears were wider like their smaller C10 counterparts when compared to the pre-88 models.

With this in mind & knowing that the earlier C&C trucks (73-91 for sure) typically had narrower rears vs duallys, I wonder if the later model C&C rear housings are also narrower vs the same year dually? If so, would that actually work to our advantage since we would ultimately need a narrower housing?? Seems to be worth investigating.....

Please post axle width please. Those rotors look similar that are on a (2003 up) 3500 single wheel chevy express van. Thats where I was heading with my dana70hd axle.

I will measure it tonight. I think wms to wms was 74".
I am not 100% sure that it is out of a dually, all i know for sure is it's out of a 05 chev. there's a sticker on it, but all the info i can make out is 05 and 4.10 gear.

Anyone know the name/description for the 'newer' rear ends? Are they still 14bolts or something later/greater??
