58/64 Stepside bed interchange?
I'm needing a step side short box for my 58 GMC. I found a nice bed that came off a 64 Chevy. What's the difference? Looking on-line I see the fenders and tailgate are the same, but bed sides may be different. Thanks.

Re: 58/64 Stepside bed interchange?
I thought they were the same and they probably are. However, I looked at the Brother's catalog and they show a side bed panel for 55-59 and a different one for 60-66. All other bed parts are the same.

Re: 58/64 Stepside bed interchange?
One thing to look at is the frame width. I got a 1959 truck in parts, and the bed wouldn't fit on the truck... the rear cross brace that the license plate would bolt to, it has two brackets that bolt the back of the bed to the frame, and this spacing was completely off, i'm assuming it was a bed from a 60-66 truck ... I bought a replacement panel from a supplier so no big deal, just be sure to measure the back brackets that bolt to the frame to find out if you need to replace it or cut the brackets and re-weld them...
this is the piece i'm referring to... |

Re: 58/64 Stepside bed interchange?
Thanks guys...I will call Mar-k in the morning. Looks like there will be a problem with the rear cross brace according to their info.

Re: 58/64 Stepside bed interchange?
It had a 8' fleetside on it. Shortening the frame for the stepside bed.

Re: 58/64 Stepside bed interchange?
if the bed was priced right and in good shape, the cross brace is only like $90+shipping... for mine i have to cut the factory welds that are on the crossbrace-to-bedside area. for some reason mine was bolted and welded...
