3rd Generation 79 chevy
Hello everyone, I've been apart of this forum for a while now and finally able to start a thread of my own. So many nice trucks and info the best forum out there well anyways i started with a 71 chevy hence the R&K's71 name had it for a few years and did a few things to but it was still in need of a lot my dad had a 79 chevy that he got from his dad. My Grandaddy bought the 79 brand new and passed it to him several years ago while he had it he had some things done with it but it was to nice for him to use it as a daily truck so he passed it to me to finish and enjoy with my kids, in return i gave him my 71 to use as a regular truck. So here it is im the 3rd Ross to own and very proud of it still being in the family. Plus the 71 is still in the family as well win win situation. The 79 is in great shape but still needing quite a bit done with please leave any comments or suggestions on things to. From the looks of the trucks i have seen on here i would love some idea's. Thanks for reading and looking and glad to be part of the Chevy truck family.

Re: 3rd Generation 79 chevy
Very nice truck! Sure doesn't look like it needs much to me! My grandfather had a 78 heavy half with factory 454 that he gave me when I was 20. I wasn't smart enough to appreciate what I had and what it meant to have it, and I let it get away. I'd give anything to have that one back!
Good luck with the project!

Re: 3rd Generation 79 chevy
The grill is in great shape but faded what would be the best spray paint to use and what sheen and color would be best

Beautiful truck.... that truck looks perfect at stock height too, I wouldn't even lower that one if it were mine.

Re: 3rd Generation 79 chevy
I went gloss black on the 78 jimmy
spray bomb?go gloss so you get the most shine I'll never do flat again for sure, always looked dirty(88 burb) and the jimmy's seem to look semi-gloss or worse these winter days anyway lol

Re: 3rd Generation 79 chevy
Nice truck.
I would leave the appearance stock. Add a sway bar if it doesn't have one. If you are going to do some motor work spend some money on some nice exhaust, not too loud but make sure the rice burners know that it is American iron that means business. |

Re: 3rd Generation 79 chevy
Great looking truck. Similar background with me. First vehicle was a 70 C10. Thing was a rust bucket but I loved it.
Got a 79 GMC about 10 years ago, she finally died about two years ago. Got my 77 now. This one will be around for a while. Well, as long as the teenage boy doesn't wreck it. Funny thing is that as a general rule I am a Ford guy. I have a 62 and 63 T-bird and a 65 Fairlane but I never liked the Ford trucks all that much. I probably will have a squarebody for the rest of my life, in one form or another. To me they were the best of the entire Chevy line, comfortable, strong running and good utility vehicles and they are cheap to run and maintain.

Re: 3rd Generation 79 chevy
Great looking truck, your family has taken great care of it and it is nice to see you carry on with it! I'd leave it as is, keep the rally wheels, go for the stock "look". Drive it around for a while and you can change things as time allows, after you decide what you are going for, whether it be the engine, or an altitude adjustment. Awesome truck!
