Wheels on my 53 - Advice Please

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting some Torque Thrust II rims for my truck and would like to go 18x8 fronts and 20x9.5 or 20x10 rears,

Would these fit on my truck without modification or would a lot of work have to be to accommodate wheels this size.

Here is a photo of my truck so you can see the current ride height.

Thanks

I dont see any problem with those wheels fitting your truck as long as the offset is where you need it to be. Clean truck by the way.

Re: Wheels on my 53 - Advice Please

it had a elcamino front clip.the widiest i could get was a 18x8 positive offset in the front and an 18x8 negitive offset rim in the rear with stock fenders and a chevy 10 bolt rear. that gave me 1 to 1 1/2 inches to the outside fender and i had to grind out about 1/2 inch of wood against the inside of the bed so my tires wouldnt rub.i must have measured 20 time for back spacing before i orderd them from billet specialties.if i would have ordered a 9 wide but the tire would have rubbed on both sides. because my tire hung out about an 1/2 inch on each side of the rim.i had enough room in the rear to order 20x8.

I'm almost certain you'd have to tub the rear to get 20x10's to fit.

Here is a pic of a 20x10 under my truck. I also have to agree that you would have to run mini tubs.

I would agree. I had to run mini tubs to fit a 10" wide rim. The fender is just not wide enought no matter the back spacing. My tubs were 2 3/4" wide. I then trimed back the outside boards to create the necessary clearance.

Re: Wheels on my 53 - Advice Please

Thanks guys, What size would be a safe option that would fit without modification? I would like 20's on the rear but If i had to substitute the width to save cutting my bed as it has a very nice wood back that I don't wish to change!

Thanks
Lew

Re: Wheels on my 53 - Advice Please

a 20x8 is about the widest you can go. but that will limit you on wheel choices. if you can fit a 20x8.5 you will have alot more options.i suggest you do some research on how to measure back spacing on google. then consider wheel well space also.i think i ordered a back spacing for my back wheel of 3.75 but that will depend on your rearend width. there are other thing to consider like how far the tire sidewall will stick out from the rim and then you need to give yourself about 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch of space beyond the tire.but make sure there isnt going to be anything obstructing under your fenderwell like bolts exhaust or braces. alot of tire companies give out information on how far a certain tire will stick out from the rim. or your can call around to tire stores in you local area and find out if someone will measure for custom rims for you. some do it for free and other will charge you.

Re: Wheels on my 53 - Advice Please

Did you finally fugure out if you could put 8.5 inch wide rims in the back? what is the largest size recommended for the front on a stock truck? i am also looking for nice large rims for my 54. this conversation helped a lot though, and yes, those are NICE trucks, congrats.

I'm curious, how close is your wheel to the fender in this pick? Hypothetically speaking, if you had bags how far would your wheel be able to go up into the fender before it bottoms out where the fender starts to curve? Also what's the tire size?

Thanks
Slim
