uh oh.67-72 or the 73-87? heres my dilemma
OK,so i know this is in the 67-72 section and it could be classified as a 73-87 section but i wanna see what you guys say.
i recently bought a 1982 short bed stepside with ac,power steering, rallys, lowered a bit.running but kinda tired 350 and a 4 speed (granny low,1,2,3) tranny.original owner for 1500$ im a huge fan of the older chevy trucks.and im looking to make one a daily driver. but my heart leans toward the 67-72 side of things. so what im basically trying to ask is what do you guys thing would be the smartest decision for me, dropping my brand new 355 in the 82, or trade/sell for a 67-72 shortbed? im torn between this decision and i need some opinions! 82 is in descent condition perfect body no rust/or rot, everything works.

Well your are on the 67-72 forum. But the truth be told if you like the 67-72 models then go for it. If its going to be a daily driver remember the mpg isn't going to make you happy. Also the creature features likely won't be as nice as the 82. Good Luck.

well how i looked at it is, ive seen 67-72' with air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, cig lighter, radio etc. what do you mean by the 'creature features'? i know about the mpg,my daily driver used to be a 78 k20 on 40's with a built 355.BLEH!

Re: uh oh.67-72 or the 73-87? heres my dilemma
I would agree that the creature features are almost as good on a loaded 72 that they are on a 82. I love the 73-79 ( not including a 1980 because there was no 454) but not a fan of the 81-86's because they only came with a 305.
If you really want a 67-72 then I would try to get one. However, you said your truck cost $1500 and had a perfect body and zero rust. Unless you are really lucky, don't expect to find a 67-72 in the same condition for $1500

Re: uh oh.67-72 or the 73-87? heres my dilemma
One of the big "creature features" are the seats. I own one of each and would not say the bench in my 72 is comfy whereas the seats in the 80 are a big upgrade. I am always looking at ideas on here to swap in better seats. I would make the 82 your DD for now. That being said I like the looks of my 72 much better but I will probably end up keeping the Jimmy once I get it going especially once we move to the snow in a few years.

Re: uh oh.67-72 or the 73-87? heres my dilemma
I like the looks of the 67-72 more, but still like the later models. I don't know the laws in AZ, but a 67-72 would be smog exempt in CA if that matters any to you. It just may be hard finding a comparable one for the price...

Get what is cooler. 72 or older chevy/gmc. Never been a fan of square body trucks. plus these 67-72 are the best for daily drivers. they are so simple to keep up with once you get the lil things knocked out. Right now I am starting from scratch on my truck so its taking longer to build.

Re: uh oh.67-72 or the 73-87? heres my dilemma
well the deals are still out there you have to look a little harder.I'm not one for be nice about my comments on here but its the truth. From 1990--2008 i seen more 1950==72 chevy trucks end up at the scrap yard do to people big ideas but little budgets.I seen hacked frames to hacked cabs .So before you think all is lost check with the salvation army for the donate a car or truck program you be really funny to find some real gems in there
One other would be check around and put the word out to the scrapers and put out a wanted order for a 1967--72 chevy truck most of the time you might find a 3/4 ton But look at the body it might be in sweet condition and for $500.00 it makes a sweet parts truck But that's how i go about finding a truck go to the locale scrap yard look around and talk to some of the guys that look like they been in the business for a long time put a reward out for the truck you want instead of only a few eyes looking for it you have over 1000 scrapers that are all over the place put out finder fee's if you want the truck do some talking |

Re: uh oh.67-72 or the 73-87? heres my dilemma
I agree with your agreement. The 73+ trucks are really nice for daily driver usage because most of them come with the "standard" amenities that are commonplace now. Most 67-72s were still pretty plain. As well, the 73+ trucks started using more standardized parts (air conditioning, etc) than previous trucks.
Best of luck with your decision, though.

I agree with daily driving the square and finding a 67-72 for a toy. I have both and I really enjoy both.
