Trucks in Australia

Hi all
I am a newbie to this forum from Australia. This is a fantastic forum and a great resource tool for people on the other side of the world. Fantastic to hear that Yezzis OJ is in Australia as this was one of my favourites on the forum.
I am currently building a Right hand drive short bed 1979 that will be blue and white and run a healthy propane fueled smallblock and sit on a nice set of centerlines. I have imported 9 of these trucks here from California and will post some pics of my previous trucks and my current build.

I know you have had the Utes there for years but I thought GM sold a limited number of "American" style pick-up trucks in Australia and New Zealand off and on during the 1960s up through the early 1980s?

Fwiw I know a guy here who imported a 70s Falcon to the states that supposedly was one of the Main Force Patrol squad cars in the Mad Max movies.

Thanks for the welcome. Here are a few of the trucks I have pulled out of California All have been sold on to buyers around Australia. The red Silverado is my first one that I bought in 2008 (I wish I hadnt sold it) and the others followed in 2009/10 The blue 76 short is my current project and I will start a build thread on it soon.

How about the jaguar suspension conversion? I heard it was a big thing in Australia amongst hot rodders. Have u , or anyone you know toyed with the idea?

Welcome, nice trucks you got there, mine is all so a Cali import.

How difficult is it to import a truck to Australia? The reason Im asking is that I might be heading your way when Im finished with the project Im working on now. The company Im working for are negotiating a contract outside NewCastle.
If I get to go I could probably get my truck there for free on the equipment charter.

Not hard if it is earlier than 1989 if you want some more info on this then message me and I can let you know

There have been quite a few jag conversions done in the past but I dont know of any done to pickups. Our registration laws are really strict in Australia now so it is a lot harder to get a modified vehicle on the road. You guys in the U.S. dont know how lucky you have it.

G'day AussieTruck,

I have slipped a jag front end onto my frame, keeping the jag mounts etc so that the front end remains in modified. The fellow I bought it from in Adelaide has done a number of them on, dare I say it here, early F100's. Although he welds his into the frame. With mine, I modified my my frame to allow the front end to sit up higher in the frame gaining about an inch in lower in ride height from what I thought I needed and was planning on gaining another inch of drop out of the springs, but since doing a quick dummy up of body, fenders etc on my frame after getting my wheels here, I am actually happy with the height it sits at the front and will adjust the rear accordingly. The front end should make for a smooth ride especially being on the factory jag mounts. Engineering wise with the research I've done it should pass through with no worries.
