Is 2002 5.7 an LS engine?
I am looking at a wrecked 2002 Chev 3500 van for a donor, but the VIN decodes as a 5.7 engine. Is this an LS engine? I was looking for a 5.3 or a 6.0 for my 2wd blazer project. Do most consider the 5.7 as desirable as the 5.3 or 6.0 for these swaps? Thanks

Re: Is 2002 5.7 an LS engine?
I would go look at the van if you can, or at least ask to see pics of it. The only 5.7L LS engines I know of are the all aluminum LS1 and LS6 engines in Vettes and Camaros.

Re: Is 2002 5.7 an LS engine?
I highly doubt the van had a 5.7 in there, more than likely a 5.3 or a LQ4 ( 6.0) is in there, ask the seller for the VIN and it will tell you

Re: Is 2002 5.7 an LS engine?
I can't seem to find any info on an all aluminum LS being used in any truck or van, previous to the LM4/L33 5.3 in 2003, then again until 05 with the aluminum 5.3/6.0/6.2 options.
99-02 only returns the all iron 6L or the 5.3. PM or post the vin, either the criteria it was decoded with was off, or the vin is misprinted or something.

Vans didnt get the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 untill 03. A 02 will have a 5.7 gen 1 Vortec.

Re: Is 2002 5.7 an LS engine?
Don't forget the L31 5.7 is also a Gen II. That's the Vortec 5.7 produced after 96.
