Installed a new wood over metal bed yesterday
Finally after years of planning and saving I installed a Mahogany bed floor in my truck over the existing metal. I had a black Rhino linear sprayed in years ago, and while strong and durable it wasn't very attractive. I still have to make a few trim pieces, but the hard part is completed. The before pic is pretty old, but shows what i was dealing with

Wow! That looks really good. Where did you get the mahogany? Was it a kit or did you make it yourself?

Re: Installed a new wood over metal bed yesterday
Was not a kit. I priced out some of them but they were rather pricey. I bought the wood from a local cabinet supply store and cut/finished it. A friend (who builds custom wood work for my business) and myself designed it, and he cut everything. I bought the stainless rails and bolts on-line. It's about 1 1/2" thick. It took the two of us around 5 hrs. to assemble and install it. I hope to get the trim pieces completed and installed next week. The wood graining and color looks better in person, than in the photo's. Just got lucky with the batch of lumber.

Re: Installed a new wood over metal bed yesterday
So does the wood just lay on top or did you fasten it down?

Re: Installed a new wood over metal bed yesterday
It's just laying there, pretty sure it's not going to move, especially once i get the trim pieces installed. One good thing about the old bed linear was it's non-slip characteristics.
I also made it so that it can be lifted out by two or three guys. When I get everything done, i'll work up a deal on how to make one. Oh, and thanks everyone for all the positive comments. I was a little hesitant on posting about it...

That is absolutely beautiful! I have considered replacing my steel bed with wood but now I have no doubt.

Re: Installed a new wood over metal bed yesterday
how bout a pic with the gate down so we can see how the interface is between the end and the metal?? Is it just a piece of wood fascia that covers the step down? Wow, that really looks nice - congrats!

Re: Installed a new wood over metal bed yesterday
Looks great, curious as to why you used 1.5" thick? Was it just convenience?
