My '66 Custom - Cowtruck

Here's where it all got started for me. I was raised on a farm. I can remember hauling cows to the sale in this truck when I was a little kid. (just a handfull of times)

A bit of history-

My grandfather (who died before I was born) bought this truck brand new in 1966, and he only bought it for one reason - to haul cows. He drove it straight home, started up the welder, and fabricated a cage on the bed. This truck has been sitting for the majority of my life. It has never left Cumming, GA, and has only 45,000 miles on it. I can remember, as a kid, looking in aw at this contraption. Thats when I fell in love with this body style. I recently inherited it from my living father, and have now began the new era of this truck. After taking this pic (I wish I had taken more), I cut the cage off. It was just too top heavy, pluse I wont be hauling any cows in it. Who knows where i'll go with this project, but my plans are to leave the patina alone and focus on the drivetrain. Its just too rusted out too restore.

Re: My '66 Custom - Cowtruck

Reminds me of one my uncle had and one that my dad had (we hauled cows and goats and many other things in it). It ended up being my first truck before I could even legally drive...(but I drove it anyway...) Keep it up and have fun with it!

Cool background story. Ya gotta love a guy that buys a brand new fancy big window custom cab for hauling cows. YEAH GRAMPS!

Re: My '66 Custom - Cowtruck

Im not sure if you can tell, but there are dual 4ft CB antennas on each mirror. The CB is still mounted to the dash. (I plan on restoring the CB to working order) He also had a trailer brake controller mounted beside the CB. Behind the truck he would pull a homemade cow trailer. (pretty much a cage mounted on mobile home axels) He had this thing set up for nothing but hauling cows! If he wasn't making a run to the sale it didn't get driven!

I'll get some more pics posted up

Welcome aboard. Nice solid truck (from what I can see) and a great story to go with it. BTW, did you get my PM yesterday?

Thanks Alan. Yes I got your PM, I also checked out vitamin c-10. Very nice build you got going there! I grew up in ducktown, but live in lumpkin county now. A guy I work with says he knows you. (DKauffman05 is his name on here) The world can seem so small at times!
