What's easier??

Hey guys, I purchased a camaro to swap parts to and get rid of most of the outdated stuff that came in my 86 c10. The question I had is would it be easier to use most of the parts from the 2000 camaro and have sort of a plug and play type of swap that would only need a tune? I keep reading all these threads about buying part after part after part to make this swap work. Is all this necessary if I have a perfectly running car with all the accessories? So far I have taken everything off the camaro, mechanical and electric. Gas tank, radiator, abs, steering column, entire wiring harness, floor shifter, gauge cluster, rear end, etc

I know it would take some fab work to get this all into a different style car but I have the time if you guys think it's worth it

keep the engine, trans, wiring harness (to rework) and pcm. Everything else just scrap or sell on CL. The airbag'd wheel and steering column wouldn't be something to put in your 86, and the rest of the cradle and suspension components won't really help ya. You can keep the disc brakes for a conversion.

Having the car helps you save time and money with the small parts, power steering lines and things like that. Not really "plug and play" though.

Thank BR3W. After reading thru so many of the forums on here I was under the impression that I could use most of these items. I've seen use of the fbodys gas tank, radiator and most importantly for the ignition the steering column. Is there any particular reason not to use them

I think there are certain mechanical parts that might be worth using. ECM, Harness, Engine, Trans, maybe gas tank, maybe colum with out air bag/steering wheel, and perhaps brakes (I am using 4th gen rear disks on the back of my truck after making backing plates).

Even the column, once you do the fab work to get it to fit, find a wheel that works etc. it would probably have been cheaper/easier to have the VATS deleted from the PCM by a competent tuner.

I think trying to get most everything else in would really be a lot of work for next to nothing gained, it it will even work. Just my thoughts.

Get the fuel pump assembly. Use the gauge panel if you like the styling. Rad and hoses? OBDII port/wiring. Maf sensor. Cruise control/throttle cable box?

I took everything mechanical and electric of the fbody. I even took the traction control off. I was thinking of using the steering column with the c10 original steering wheel. I want everything I can possibly get under the hood within reason.

The VATS can be bypassed with a $50 VATS box from painless on 4th gen F-body PCMs.

DO NOT use that rear end, throw it away or sell it unless it is an upgraded unit.

the 7.5" 10 bolt in those cars are much smaller and weaker than your trucks 8.5"

it would be a time bomb under that power and weight of that truck, keep your stock 10 bolt under there.

I was actually going to snatch the brakes off the rear along with the abs.

I agree you can keep the tank/pump/sending unit as well, and the rad might work but that depends on dimensions. ABS stuff is for removal only lol, never bothered putting it back on anything.

You could go more like Frizzle Fry did, and try to use the entire donor vehicle as a base....but that was a 'vette and is more of a thesis on fabrication.

the lug pattern, while still 5 lug, is different than ours. its like a 5 x 4.75 too. so the rotors wont be a direct fit

You will also need the BCM, And alot of related wiring, Far easier to delete/bypass it & move on, The columns in the F-bodies are junk anyway (tilt pin wearing out the aluminum housing) & the resister keys & cylinder give alot of problems.

Hey now The C5+ vette has a full frame. F-Body's are unibody. It's much easier to swap a cab onto a frame than to adapt suspension from a unibody donor.

From an fbody I would use the engine,trans, ECU, engine harness, rear brakes, and rear sway bar. I would look at using the front brakes, radiator, fuel tank, rear axle, seats, cluster, and ebrake parts.

This is the old broken frame I'm using for mockup. I have the new frame that will get the complete notch installed top to bottom. Thanks for concern tho, now what about the gas tank lol
