Correct 292 6 alternator bracket

Anyone have a photo of the correct bracket for this? Mine is offset and is bending the belt, looks rigged.
Thanks for any help!

Re: Correct 292 6 alternator bracket

Would it help if you put the bracket on the back side of the alternator tab?

Re: Correct 292 6 alternator bracket

Good idea, maybe it will take a little less bend to make it fit better on that side. I might flip it over as well and see if the current bend lines up that way.. I am guessing the bottom bracket will take some adjustment also so the pulley lines up square to the crank pulley.

Just wanted to see if the adjustment bracket looked right to you all.

On the 250 in my nova the bracket is flipped over and bolted to the water pump.

Re: Correct 292 6 alternator bracket

Congrats on truck - great to see another 292-powered Suburban! The bracket is correct but mounted incorrectly. Attached are a couple of pics of mine. The alternator is upgraded, but the mounting is stock. I recall both the stock alternator and this 12SI took some fiddling to get the pulley to align.

That's the same bracket that is on my '69 292 truck.

Re: Correct 292 6 alternator bracket

Thanks all, that was an easy adjustment... Might need to reshape the bracket a little in my vise but it lines up much better bolted to the water pump.

On to the next item on the checklist

By the way 67carry-all, I want to see a picture of your entire Burb now, not just the engine bay!

Re: Correct 292 6 alternator bracket

Happy to oblige - posted the pics in the 67-72 burban pic thread to avoid duplicate pic posting. I look forward to seeing the progress on yours. I like the wheels; I have some "old-school" aluminum mags waiting in the wings. How did you polish yours? Stock wheel bolts were long enough to mount the slots?

Re: Correct 292 6 alternator bracket

I was just doing a right click and save on your truck photos in the pic thread! I loved both the before and after. It's going to be hard to leave my patina behind but I want to do some rust repair and your after shots help me have some vision.

I have always loved the slots and these were an easy addition, price and condition. They had some overspray and showed age but cleaned up very well. I sprayed some eagle one mag wheel cleaner, let it set for a minute and rinsed. Then sprayed again and scrubbed with a green scotch brite pad and rinsed. They look brand new, I am tempted to polish them up as I have seen others do but like the dull finish as well. Can you tell I am at the indecisive stage of the build

The nuts you see are standard length mag nuts with washers and had just enough length to snug up but not enough to feel safe or avoid damage to the mag. I have an order in for the extended nuts, not just extended shaft but longer acorn so it extends beyond the mag more. I will let you know how they work once I throw them on.

Thanks again for the pics!

Re: Correct 292 6 alternator bracket

Glad to help with the pics. Thank YOU for the tips on the wheel clean-up and and the lug bolts/nuts - I'll be interested to hear how the extended ones work out. I look forward to seeing the progress on the "bean"!

Re: Correct 292 6 alternator bracket

67carry-all, I got the extended nuts in and they were just right with a washer behind them. Now I need to wire brush and paint up the drums behind the mags and really set them off!

Re: Correct 292 6 alternator bracket

Great! Does it look and feel safe just with these without having to use longer wheel studs as well? I'm liking the idea of detailing the drums!

Re: Correct 292 6 alternator bracket

I got at least 8-10 turns on each nut so I do feel safe, the shaft inserts through the mag so it gets a lot of thread. Drives a lot better to with tires made in this century. I will post some close up photos when I get a chance of the new nuts.

I have a 292 in my 69 gmc. What does the lower bracket look like?
