Radiator Hose/Trunk Height?

I went to order new radiator hoses (both upper and lower) from Rock Auto.com. They list two different hoses for each application depending on trunk height. Can anyone tell me what in the world they are talking about? My truck doesnt even have a trunk. Even if it did, what would that have to do with radiator hoses.

my truck takes the same hoses with or without the truk trunk

If you go directly to dayco's website: http://www.accessdayco.com/Auto.aspx (the supplier Rockauto seems to be selling for our trucks) and search for your truck year it will show you a better picture of what the difference is between the two. I have no clue why RockAuto has put in "trunk". I would guess that's just some data entering issue. But from a quick look it seems that one of the part #'s is a flexible universal hose, the other is a premolded version. The 7xxxx versions are the molded ones.

I think they want to know, the distance in height, from the upper/lower hose connection to the engine connection.

Wow Orrie that's a perfect explanation in it's simplest form......if it's correct! Where were you when I was high in school, I mean in High School.

In reality that's exactly the reason combined with as I stated above, one set of hoses is flexible universal, the other is premolded.

The reason is pretty obvious for carrying more than one. Some people keep the original radiator. Some people keep the original engine. The flexible one they carry can only flex a certain amount, thus the need for knowing how long that "trunk" is.

So like I said above, with the 7xxxx ones on the RockAuto site being molded, use those if everything is original. Otherwise go with the flex ones.

70112=upper, 70115=lower, 81011=flex upper, 81171=flex lower.

No that would involve a hampster and a microwave. I think there used to be a .gif file years ago about it.

Here are the hoses I found at Riellys for my 59, stock radiator, 350 sbc. The upper is a Gates 20416, I had to shorten the end that goes on the radiator. The lower is a Gates 20584, I had to shorten the radiator end on it too. The applications are not GM, I took in a bent wire and diameters. I got them at Reilys. Here is a photo of the upper, do not have one of the lower.
