New owner/need a few things

New owner of 1972 blazer! Needs some work but I got a heck of a deal on it. Mainly needs floorboard replaced and paint. I have new quarter panels and motor that came with it. Really would like an original back seat. Can anyone help me out??
Thanks, Kolby

Re: New owner/need a few things

Well since I am looking for a rear seat, can anyone tell me up to what year will still fit in a 72?
What year did the back seat get the latches on its front?

Re: New owner/need a few things

Welcome to the board and congrats on your purchase. You have to be a supporting member to post a want to buy type ad. However, it will be $25 well spent as you gather parts you need in your restoration. 69-72 Blazer rear seats are all the same. Try to find one with the rear brackets, front brackets, hold downs for front, and the armrest bars as all this stuff can get expensive if you buy it individually. Shipping on big items is usually expensive so keep your eyes peeled Craigslist areas that are within driving distance or pick and pulls.

Re: New owner/need a few things

Ok thanks! And yeah I knew those back seats were the same, but what about seats from 73-78? Won't some of those fit? Ii know one year they went to a quick release latch for folding the rear seat, but I don't know what year that started..

Re: New owner/need a few things

I have 2 back seats but I dont think you would like the shipping price. Let me know, 1 is in great shape and the other is in fair shape. I can post pics too if you like.

Re: New owner/need a few things

I had just pulled the front seats out because i plan on replacing the floorboard. Also have this top.. It needs quite a bit of fiberglass work. The latch handle is broke and the hatch part won't latch shut. Worth it to fix it? Or should I find a better one?

Re: New owner/need a few things

Looks fairly solid.

Is the truck going to be a daily driver or just a sunny day rig? If just a sunny day rig, get a soft top. That hard top looks like it's in pretty good condition. Most you'll find for sale will need repairs. The hatches are often broken.

Re: New owner/need a few things

Looks to be a good start, should be a fun project. As for the top, like bouncytruck said, any you find would need repair so you might as well do the one you have.

Re: New owner/need a few things

Thanks guys. And it is pretty solid for a decent start. I plan on being able to maybe drive it on weekends and stuff like that, not really a daily driver but not really a show truck. So I'd like to definitely fix the hatch. The locking mechanism doesn't work though so I'm not to sure what it's deal is. Hope the guts haven't fell down in it, if that's possible?

And nice to meet you woodymm3! Where ya located exactly?

Re: New owner/need a few things

I am in Edmond. I moved here about a year ago from Washington state. Alot of times people take the guts out of the back. You can find them on here for sale from time to time. I had to purchase guts for mine as well. I will be fixing my hatch presently.

Can you get the guts out or put em in without splitting the hatch open?

Re: New owner/need a few things

My hatch was nt working when i bought my blazer last year the ends on the hatch where it latches to the top wouldnt move so i took it apart and oiled everything and it works good now . You can take it all apart and pull everything out the only thing i found that give me a little trouble but was nt to bad is where the arm inside the hatch hook to the hatch handle has some small cotter keys that held the arms to the handle that were kinda a booger but its not bad and i thought it was a good learning experience

What all did you have to do to get the hatch itself back together?

Re: New owner/need a few things

I am not sure if you can get em in and out without splitting it. Alot of them are riveted in. I will be taking mine apart soon. Going to hacksaw it in half and then fiberglass it back together... crossing my fingers I dont ruin it.... anything worth having is worth working for though.

Re: New owner/need a few things

I will post some pictures on what I am doing so when you get there you will have some type of instruction...not that I am an expert... this is my first one as well. I am just going to wing it and hope for the best haha.

On another note. Do you have a seat frame for the back seat? I had 2 extras about a year ago I ended up letting go. I still have the armrest and the front and back brackets for a rear seat though I believe. If you find a frame and and need brackets let me knwo I will cut you a deal on some of mine.

I'm no expert on the hatches either for sure! So please lemme know all you can after you do yours!

Re: New owner/need a few things

If the guts of the hatch aren't rusted to pieces, you can take all the parts out and put them back in without taking the hatch apart. If the screws will come out, you can pull the rods, latches and handle out through their openiings. Just take pics so you remember how it came apart!

Re: New owner/need a few things

I already have the front seats woodymm3. I am just looking for a rear one right now. Thanks though!
I did see in your post and a question between the sport/utility seats, how do I tell the difference between the two? Mine look a little different from your seats.

And thanks for the tips red71cheyenne. I will definitely let ya'll know how it goes.

Re: New owner/need a few things

The two sets I have are called Utility bucket seats, They were the lower grade seat, They are wider and flatter almost like half of a bench seat. What I like about them though as they are a little bigger and that they have metal backs instead of the plastic backs like the regular buckets. They are also a rarer option? I think. There are some members on here that have custom painted their seatbacks and they look pretty good. You just cant do that kind of stuff with the plastic ones. Also I am told the tracks are different.

Re: New owner/need a few things

Oh I see! Mine are the other type of seat then! I'll post pics of them. They have a unique design in the vinyl that is original I think. I've seen it in other door panels. Kind of a western design, I like it! Lol
