Re: 85 k10 shifts hard
Better hard and quick than slow and soft lmao. It prob has a shift kit. A faster and harder shift prolongs the trans life by reducing the overlap when one clutch engages and other disengages.

Re: 85 k10 shifts hard
does it have a 700-r4 tranny? you can adjust the type of shift you desire on the TV cable. there is a lock clip behind throttle bracket push it in and slide inner sleeve towards radiator then release locktab have someone inside cab floor the gas pedal(without truck running) and hold it there push lockclip in and push inner sleeve towards firewall this will be maximum valve body pressure most 700's like it here more than a slightly softer shift you can back off the pressure a little at atime but do not go too far.

Re: 85 k10 shifts hard
I've built plenty of 700's and the factory adjustment procedure is very similiar. Push in lock-tab, push inner sleeve all the way towards the firewall and release the lock-tab. Then floor the gas pedal slowley with engine off. You will here the clicking of the lock tabs until it is properly adjusted. You can fine tune 1-2 notches either way without sacraficing clutch pack durability but I would not go more than that.

Re: 85 k10 shifts hard
What trans? 3 speed? 4 speed? Usually a shift kit will make it shift harder under accelleration.

Re: 85 k10 shifts hard
its 4 speed and i'm not sure witch tranny it is yet , and it shifts very nicely when i step into it , just shifts wierd to me when slowly (grampa driving) like its taking to long to shift then when it does shift it shifts hard , 9i was just wondering if this is normal for this truck , life was easier with the standard lol

Re: 85 k10 shifts hard
4 speed auto would be a 700r4 and if you want to be clear on how to adjust the tv cable just google "how to adjust 700r4 tv cable" and look for one from either monster transmission or mad dog transmission their videos will show you just like i explained it to you earlier if you have any doubts. good luck!!

Re: 85 k10 shifts hard
If it has a edelbrock, holley, or any such after market carb you will need a geometry correction kit from Summit, Jegs, Bowtie Overdrives. I ust installed a newly rebuilt 700 and it would seem to run up the R's before it would shift, I alreadty had the geometry kit and a new bracket for the TV and throttle cable at the rear of the intake called my tranny guy he said to readjust using the factory above listed method and see if it loosened the cable mine did not so I had to go with a adj. cable from B&M. I have a jegs bracket for my cables, a Geometry kit for the carb and the cable works onmy edelbock 650 w/edlebrock intake. Just some ideas to cheak 700sare great when right, my expirence though if wrong they last a 1/2 a year. Good luck
