trying to set timing

I'm trying to set the timing on my truck but it don't have a timing tab on it motor is a 383 but i can't seem to find its iddle dist is not vaccum Im thinking on buying a universal timing tab but don't know how good they work any help I really need to het this truck running Im thinking vaccum timing

You can use a Universal , but the OEM style is cheaper and easier IMO.
2 timing cover bolts hold it on , I think you can install it without taking the water-pump and pulleys off.

Are you sure the timing tab is not in the middle of the timing cover behind the water pump? I have been fooled by that before. Not sure what years those came on but I've seen them.

Well I have checked all over the place and I can't seem to locate it and I wanted to buy a stock one but it has an after market balancer so I don't know wat size it is cuz there from size I think 6 all way to 8 so. And the one I was looking at you are suppose to adjust it to your size.
