3 Deuces on their truck
I have been thinking very seriously about a three deuce setup on my truck, anyone out there have one on theirs? looking at the vintage one from florida that has 4v manifold adapter with carbs for 990.00. Any feedback for this?

Re: 3 Deuces on their truck
I say go for it! Dare to be different!
I've considered it, but not that daring. I have a buddy with an old pontiac setup that's just sitting around.

Re: 3 Deuces on their truck
Don't do an adapter, the manifold is the cheap part.
There is a 'zine article on new 4bbl manifolds with a 3x2 and 2x4 thrown in for good measure. (May be Hot Rod) well IIRC the 3x2 smoked all the newer manifolds. Look it up, i have slept since then so may be CRS kicking in. :p I plan to run 3 2GC's on my truck, like my Dad had on his '59 Impala 'vert.

Re: 3 Deuces on their truck
My only experience was a 406 3x2 setup on a 63 Galaxie I had back in the 70’s. It was the most fun carburetion setup I ever owned. Get the engine spinning fast enough and crack that sucker open and it was like flushing a toilet. You could actually watch the gas gauge go down if you held it open long enough. The acceleration and sound effects were breath taking. I wish I could afford a similar setup on my truck.
I would think 3x2's going through a 4 barrel manifold however would by design be very inefficient.

I personally wouldn't use an adapter but it all depends on your intentions. I put the setup on my '48 coupe for the look, not for performance, but I still wanted the "real thing". either way (using the correct manifold or the adapter), if you're getting the complete system from Vintage then you'll be good. if you're putting together a system from used components like I did, then you'll need to do your homework. if you want power, one (or two) four barrells are probably a better choice, but I ALMOST put the 3x2s on the '66 truck

Re: 3 Deuces on their truck
I have this setup all made up & am going to install it on a new Goodwrench 350 & put in my 56 in a few months. It probably wont run any better then a good Q-jet back the wow effect will be worth it.

Re: 3 Deuces on their truck
The wow effect is already working if you ask me.

Re: 3 Deuces on their truck
the regular, coil-in-cap HEI is too big. I had a mallory uni-lite on it at one time, now run a small cap, remote coil HEI.

Re: 3 Deuces on their truck
Anyone tried the L31 Vortec with the vortec 3x2 intake?

Re: 3 Deuces on their truck
I put an L31 crate in the '48 coupe last year and kept the 3x2 setup (avatar picture). had to buy a new manifold of course, since the old 350 didn't have vortec heads.
if you're looking for power, the 3x2s just aren't worth the effort over a 4 bbl in my opinion

Re: 3 Deuces on their truck
Thanks…….I am planning a L31 with 3x2 in my '41 Coupe, but considered putting the same in my truck.
How's the drivability? Do you still have the stock cam? Is that Sanderson exhaust manifolds? I'm not looking for max power.

Re: 3 Deuces on their truck
I'm happy with the drivability considering that I'm currently running a 2.73 gear with a 700r4 . after some tinkering (these are junk-yard carbs) it starts instantly and runs great.
I did swap the cam for the GM Ramjet (https://chevroletperformanceparts.co...-i-451-e-18395) but kept the 1.5 rockers. And those are, indeed, Sandersons. I had the pair already and they actually gave me the best plug boot/wire clearance of my already-in-the-shop choices (others being some no-name block huggers and a set of ramhorns). I use the accel 9001C ceramic boot wires (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/acc-9001c/overview/)
