Question electricfuel pump

hi guys since I got done with the motor on olgreen I was checking every thing out and noticed the fuel going threw the fuel filter and it looked like it was all going to the carb I still have a mechanical pump on it I was told it needed a lectric pump to keep up with the motor so I will get one but they also said leave the old pump in it that it wouldnt matter or make any diff is this right or have any of you guys done it that way ihave the rpm set at 1000 but it lopes and was wondering if I needed one any way it runs ok so maybe it doesnt keep up with the fuel at idle I have a edelbrock 1411 750 on it just in case that means any thing any thoughts guys thanks popdad got to take my bride out for dinner 34 years together today

Pop,

I'm a little lost here, but that's nothing new.

What kind of motor do you have, and what's in it like cam, heads, intake, etc. And why do they say you need an electric fuel pump to keep up? A good mechanical fuel pump will supply plenty of fuel, unless it's really sucking down some gas.

Now, you say again, you were told to leave the old pump on it. Do you mean after installing the electric and bypassing the mechanical? Just to plug the hole in the block? If this is the case, no. Take the old pump off and use a block off plate to cover the hole. No use in having the pump dragging on the cam if it's not being used.

One more thing, who told you this stuff? They might just be full of it. I will tell you as quick as I find out if they are a friend of yours.
