Diesel owners, step inside.

Right now I have a 2005 1500HD with the 6.0 that I use to pull a 5th wheel camper during the summer. I'm not really impressed with the power, and certainly not with mileage. I would like to upgrade to a newer 2500HD with either the diesel, or gas. So, the main question would be are the newer (2009-2012) HD's with the gas engine any better on power and mileage? Or would anyone really recommend a diesel? I just don't know, just can't decide if I'd use it enough to justify it.

Diesel engines pull so much better. However, the newer diesel engines don't get the fuel economy that they used to get.

I usually hear the 06-07 LBZ are the best ones to find. I think my stock gasser was only rated at 300 hp.

I wouldn't pull a 5th wheel with anything less than a diesel. The newer stuff is getting better on mileage with all the tuning software that is available.

I have an 07 nbs diesel and my dad just got an 08 gasser. Both ccsb 3/4 tons and I can spank him in mileage and power. His gasser is pretty impressive for power but he can't hardly afford to drive it since he can't get hardly any better than 10-14 empty or 8 mpg towing. His old 03 gasser 3/4 ton got way better mileage both towing and empty but didn't have the power this newer one has.

I have a 07 ccsb 4x4 duramax with a tuner, cold air airbox, turbo back exhaust(dpf and cat removed) - gets around 20 mpg on interstate, around 10 mpg pulling my 35' 5th wheel camper. I will not ever pull a camper with a gas motor again.

Well, sold the 2005 and was looking for a newer used truck, but decided on a new 2012 Chevy 2500HD Duramax. So far, I think I'm in love

I only have a few hundred miles on it, but the first fill up was just over 18 mpg's.

06 used to be considered the best year for Duramax equipped trucks but from what I hear, the newest one has surpassed what used to be considered the best.

Congrats! I can't recommend the Duramax more for how you intend to use the truck. My '07 CC DRW LBZ pulls and controls my 12K lbs fully laden race trailer like nothing else - 15 mpg.

I'm looking to buy a newer diesel sometime soon I hope.
I want to trade my 08 Tahoe in on it and try to keep the payments about the same.

I have a 20' enclosed car trailer I pull with my 08 Tahoe but it's only for short trips. I want something to getter done with.

I want a new 2012 but don't think the wife is going to go for it. 2010 maybe.
What year would be the best?

My LBZ is awesome, when I heard GM was going to DPFs in 08 I found an 07 classic, and I'm glad I did.

The duramax's are great! I have an 08 and won't go back to gas. I removed the DPF a while ago and is now straight piped, and love the performance..... it just breathes so much better and gets better mileage.

It is a little harder to remove smog on the 2012, but it can be done. I believe there is one programmer that will delete the DPF codes if you decided to go straight piped.

The LB7s 01-04.5 had injector issues, the LLYs from 04.5-05 had head gasket issues caused by the variable vane turbo, the 06-07.5 LBZs were said to have fixed all of that with lower compression, a better turbo, better injectors, and more power. The 07.5-10 LMMs had the DPF and all that emissions stuff that KILLED fuel mileage and had the same power and frame as the LBZs but in the new body style. The 11-12 LML has a much stronger frame, stronger suspension, gets better fuel mileage and has way more power than anything up until this point. It does have urea injection which is essentially pig piss to reduce NOX emissions, so that is kind of annoying to have to keep filled up. You can remove all of your emissions stuff on your LML but you will void the warranty, and its really hard to justify doing that on a $50-$70,000 truck. In my opinion the 06.5 is the best, because the 07s got the DPF. I have a friend with an 06.5 and a friend with a 07, both OBS, and the 06.5 gets 22mpg, the 07 gets 17 because of the emissions crap.
