power window question

hello, I have an 56 gmc 2wd crew dually that I'm in the process of putting a cummins into. We have the truck in a driving state right now. Working on getting the power windows to work. None of the window will work. Haven't tried the locks yet. I have power and a ground at the switch,power leaving switch to the motor on driver door in up and down,also at motor with test light grounded to switch and door. Truck has sit about a year or so was told windows were working before I got it. Could motors have stuck from no use or just bad, missing something in the wiring? thanks

I doubt if it's stock with power windows in a '56. Only Cadillacs had electric windows then. You have to find out who the aftermarket manufacturer was and see if you can still get parts from them.
I know LMC sells a 4 window aftermarket power window kit for about $300 for the '67-'72 Suburbans. They might have a similar kit for your vintage in a sub. [Although I recall slide back windows in the "short bus" I had to ride to grade school on.]

Too bad. I wanted to see pix of a custom '56 GMC 4-door crew cab. I even figured they might have used '56 Fleetwood electric regulators. My Dad left me a '73 Lincoln Continental. It had power windows. When the drivers side door window froze up I went to a local gas station that still had bays and mechanics on duty. [I guess that was a while ago...] One of them had to take the electric motor out of the door and he worked on the commutator brushes or the armature windings or what ever and it worked again. For a while. When the 4 windows would not work anymore and the AC was kaput, I sold the car.

I think I would try pulling a motor and seeing if it operates when unburdened from the regulator.

These motors aren't exactly high torque monsters. They can easily be defeated by mechanical resistance.

Window regulators[ and electric motors] out of an '86 shouldn't be that hard to find in the junkyard -- but they may be as bad as yours.
