What you guys think of this 1965

I meet a guy at a local car show and he told me about his son's 65 fleet that was totaled. I knew the truck from years ago and it was a 283/ 3speed with A/C, very clean truck. The bed was sold a year or two ago.

The guy is asking $1000 for the whole truck minus the engine/trans. Interior is pretty clean, has power windows and a nice factory speedo and A/C, also a painless wiring harness
I could use the factory 6 lug wheels, glass, and all the good parts in the doors. A/C would be a plus too, also the seat would be nice for a sofa in my man cave.

I think the most I would pay is $700 but I wanted to see what you guys think?

Pass. That's not even the factory installed ac. Looks like you will need parts to get what he has there to work.

Re: What you guys think of this 1965

Will he let you take the a/c components off the engine also? That would allow you to transfer the a/c. Lots of great parts though. The dash and switches have some value, as does the seat. You dont know what kinda condition the window kit is in since the wreck though? Might try putting power to it and check the electronics out. The steering column is wrong and alot of the interior is already gone. Id try more like $500 personnally. It looks like the damage is worse than the pics to bend the dash the way it did. Id just error on the side of caution or come to terms on the parts that you want.

Re: What you guys think of this 1965

I dont know how it it is in your area but in mine, i see whole trucks minus the engine and trans for $1000 or less.....for instance i bought mine with all the custom trim, for $400....I'd pass, theres seems to be a ton of these trucks still out there ...some people seem to want a grip of cash for them, but if you just wait and keep your eye on craigslist trucks pop up for cheap every so often...

Re: What you guys think of this 1965

a friend might go in half with me. I'm really not at the point for A/c in my truck as of yet. i need the parts in the doors and the glass mainly. And I want the seat just because.

As for as AC components, the owner wants the brackets but everything else we can have. No biggie if i do get the A/C i really dont like the compressor up in the air like that.

i would not spend $1000 on that personally, even if the engine and trans were included and working. I say pass and keep lookin, but I know, sometimes the "speak" to us and we can't resist, but that's my 2 cents.

Re: What you guys think of this 1965

To me $1,000 doesn’t seem realistic at all considering what remains usable. All it would be worth to me is the value of the cluster, the seat, door parts, and the wheels if you want them. Couple hundred bucks tops. There’s no assurance any of the A/C stuff still works after being clobbered that hard. The brackets would appear to be the most valuable parts of the system, but they could have been bent by the force of the impact.

Re: What you guys think of this 1965

to me, that truck is worth about 300 tops, no bed, no motor/trans, front sheet metal is un-useable, frame is probably damaged. ac and seat is about all I see that is worth anything really.

I like the power window switch on the dash, but I would never do it myself. Did it get hit hard enough to bend the dash by the glovebox?

9 times out of 10 that frame is bent, that looks like one he|| of a smack it got in the front end, Realisticly that truck is just worth $200-$300 dollars if he is taking the engine and tranny. Somebody has already hacked that poor truck up too bad.

Re: What you guys think of this 1965

This is a clear case of the whole truck being worth less than the sum of it's parts. You can't just add up the value of usable parts because time and effort are worth something too.

Re: What you guys think of this 1965

A bent frame? That's a $400.00 repair. The truck maybe worth just a little more that whatever you could get for it at the scrapyard. $200.00 top dollar.

Re: What you guys think of this 1965

My question would be , is the cab solid ?? is it bent up ?? the AC has to worth something , and what good are the brackets to the guy if he has no compressor? I would need to see more of it ... if the cab is good then I look at how much work could be saved from doing a rust bucket ...

If the cab is solid you could sell that easily for $400-$600. But for $1000 just to buy it no way. Looks like his son was racing someone with all the stickers on there. edlebrock, flowmaster is just a dead give away hahaa

There are people trying to sell good cabs around here for around $200 and they aren't being sold. Judging by the dash, I doubt the cab is straight.

Does it have disc brakes up front. If so that may be salvaged. The seat, door(s?) & steering columb look to be the only major items that would be worth the effort.
