quick ??? on gas tank?

My gas tank stops at 10 gallons always
idk why?
its a 74 chevy custom deluxe short bed
so it suppose to have 16 gallon tanks right?
Ive been looking online and cant find anything
went to gm-heritage website and it said there suppouse to be 16 gallon tanks
it has 2 tanks
but I only use the one on the driver side
could it be something to do with the sender or float
any input would be greatly appreciated

Re: quick ??? on gas tank?

Sounds like the float is out of adjustment. As to only being able to use one tank, that sounds like a wiring or switching valve problem. Could also be the switch in the dash, but my guess is the valve under the truck. Have a friend sit in the truck and flip the switch while you listen to the valve under the truck. If you can't hear anything, replace it. I got mine at NAPA, granted our valves are a little different since mine is a 1989 R3500. Same principle though. Good luck with it.

Re: quick ??? on gas tank?

Is it easy to adjust the float?
am i gonna have to take my bed off to get to my tanks
im only using the drivers side, because when i got the truck
the po said he had only been fueling up the drivers side
so im saving up money to buy or clean the passenger fuel tank and get the valve and hoses that not gonna be until next month tho
How do i adjust it

Re: quick ??? on gas tank?

Yes - it's a 16 gallon tank, but keep in mind not all of that is "usable".

So, depending on how much is laying in the bottom, and how low you run it down 10 to 12 gallons on a "fill up" could be reasonable.
