1972 12 bolt in a 66 C20
I want to get rid of the 4:57 RE in my 66 C20 I have been told I can swap in a 1972 12 bolt RE that i have sitting around if I use an adjustable track bar. My question is this assuming they are correct what Ujoint do i use to convert my existing drivshaft to the 72 RE yoke. The plan is to retro fit the truck to a higher ratio 1/2T 5 lug statis.

Thing is that I never wanted a 3/4t. But the body was so nice I could'nt turn it down at his low asking price. So I plan on either converting it down to a 1/2 T or doing a stock brake job and flipping it to better afford the truck I was really wanting.(1/2T short bed or short body panel) At this point I am leaning towards the latter unless I can get this beast into a 1/2T. I am not interested in disc brakes ,power steering, AC etc.. Just a locally driven cruiser about 4" lower than stock w 350/ T400 that is better on the freeway than that huge 8 lug RE. I have used conversion ujoints in some of my street rods in the past. Just not on trucks yet,

I don't have a part number for you, but what I would do is take both U-joints to a good local auto parts store such as NAPA, and tell them what you are wanting to do. If that proves too difficult, then try swapping the rear driveshaft with one that came in a C10 with a 12 bolt. The latter may solve 2 issues, as you may also need to lengthen your original rear driveshaft, going to the 12 bolt. You can use the '65-'72 C10 panhard bar, but you will have to put a slight bend in it to get it to line up with the mounting points.
