283 i.d
I was hoping to get some assistance in identifying the year of my 283 block.
casting # located on driver's side aft is 3789935 On the passenger side (same area) is J301 In the area behind the flex plate (driver's side) is H17, same area on passenger side is 835 870 casted just how i've typed it (on top of each other). This is all the info I have on the motor at this time and I hope it's enough to give me additional info on this block. Thanks in advance.

Re: 283 i.d
So far... It IS a 283 dated October 30, 1961 (J 30 1)
3789935 was manufactured between 61-64. Get the numbers off the pad on the deck on the front passenger side if you can.

Re: 283 i.d
Thanks BMERDOC, it also has side engine mount bosses as well as three bolt holes for starter installation. I believe I should be able to use the 168 tooth flywheel and the starter with the diagonal bolt holes.
