1963 3 speed OD

Was looking for a new truck and saw a rusty but cool 1963 long bed fleet custom cab with 283 and 3 speed OD. My question is was the OD unit is part of the transmission or is it an unit that bolts in place of the tail shaft some how? The reason I'm asking is to see if it would be adaptable to other 4 speed trannys.

Anyone have any info?

Re: 1963 3 speed OD

The OD is pretty much part of the trans. Not something you could bolt on to another trans.

I was thinking that it was part of the trans, but not sure.

Just thought that a 4x2 speed would be cool.
