Using washers to space wheel temporarily?
I am running a Ford 8.8 rear end in the rear of my '49 Chevy right now. Currently I have the box on and the inner edge of my tire is hitting the lip of the box. So for a temporarily solution (Just so I can roll it around the garage), if I was to use grade 8 washers on the studs to space the wheel out, do you think that would be a problem?
Again I will not be driving on them. I am just trying to be able to roll it around the garage and get an idea of ride height at the moment.

Re: Using washers to space wheel temporarily?
I don't see what grade 8 washers will do to help anything. Buy the cheapest washers you can. The stress is on the wheel studs, not on the washers.
You already mentioned this, but just to reitterate; grade 8 washers or not, don't drive it on any road another person is on.

Re: Using washers to space wheel temporarily?
I'm with 71swb4x4 (hope I got that right) in that for rolling it around there is no problem and I wouldn't waste my money on buying grade 8 washers just for that job. I'd use the buy in bulk by the pound ones. Make sure that the ones you use are all the same thickness though as sometimes they use different gages of metal to stamp them out of.

Re: Using washers to space wheel temporarily?
Thanks for the replies. I will end up doing that.
Grade 8 washers are in plenty supply at my house. Luckily was in the right place at the right time when someone was getting rid of a lot of them at our factory. This wheels are just to roll it around. No intention on driving it with these things.
