Emergency Brake cable help & some other help
I have a '82 scottsdale k20 LB.
The emergency cable has snapped off under the under carriage. I have gone to the local "pick n pull" to try to figure out what all is missing. I have an idea of how its suppose to run but I would still love some pictures of peoples under carriage to get a better idea. I am missing 2 brackets(im pretty sure), the tensioner bracket that holds the 3 cables on it and the eye hook bracket for the cable. No my problem with going to the pick n pull to look at other trucks in the same years has me a bit confused. They don't have the same cables that my truck has. Let me know what you need from me to help you help me out. I have some other small issues but I'll just start another thread for it some people wont get confused and overwhelmed with my issues. Thanks again! James |

Is this really how they are ran on a '82? This picture is what I saw on all the trucks I crawled under |

Welcome to the site.
If you use 84 and later parts, you can ditch a few from the older version. |

awesome, I can do that? Are all brake cables the same for any size truck? Would LB make a difference? Thanks again.

Re: Emergency Brake cable help & some other help
youd have to check the part numbers but my 82 had the 82 parking brake... im sure you could switch out but its prolly just as cheap to do it with the 82 parts

You don't happen to have any pictures of your brake cables do you? Diagrams some times can be deceiving to me.

Re: Emergency Brake cable help & some other help
Would I need to find parts of a LB or are they all same length?

Re: Emergency Brake cable help & some other help
I think the cables are the same lengh down to a equalizer. From there, cables are adjust or routed to take up slack.

Re: Emergency Brake cable help & some other help
short wheel base.
Actually, the advise to get the LMC catalog is spot on (imho), sometimes a simple diagram spell things out much better than a Chilton's manual. (and my memory)

Re: Emergency Brake cable help & some other help
Ive looked at the LMC. Its VERY informative, and a plus that they are 5 miles from my house
I guess its common sense to look at a '84 LB 3/4 ton and get the brake cables off it. |
