Re: 4x4 front axle drum to disc
I just went through this. I couldn't find a kit so swapped in a ten bolt from an 84 that I bought for 50 bucks.

Re: 4x4 front axle drum to disc
Find yourself a junk yard Dana 44 with disks. That is the cheapest "Kit" you will find. Be sure to snag the Brake Proportioning Valve too. noco-k5's ten bolt is stronger though. Was the ten bolt a direct bolt in noco?

Re: 4x4 front axle drum to disc
Doubt you'll find a complete disc front end for $50
You could try your local pick-a-part as they are relatively cheap if you don't mind pulling it yourself. Finding a complete dana 44 front isn't all that hard to do. Disc became standard on these things starting in 72. Even $150-$200 would be cheap in my opinion for a complete front diff with disc, and a worthwhile swap. I recently bought front and rear diffs from a 78 complete with 3.73's, posi, all new front suspension pieces complete for $500. They are out there. |

Re: 4x4 front axle drum to disc
Swapping in a later disc axle is the easiest. Make sure the ratio is the same and you will need to replace the proportioning valve and master cylinder and front brake lines.

Re: 4x4 front axle drum to disc
i have a bunch of 80s front ends i would sell for 50$ if they went to good use but ..you may want to measure the spring distance before you buy one from an 80s because the frame is a diff width.i tryed it once and didnt work out in that case .it came from an 86 blazer.

Re: 4x4 front axle drum to disc
I just finished converting my 69 blazer from drum to disc brakes a couple of hours ago. I picked up a 72 blazer dana 44 that was shot for a 100.00 bill. I kept my dana since it was recently rebuilt, so i had to change every thing from the knuckles out (72 disc parts) and keep everything from the knuckles in(69 parts). Had to install a new propotioning valve and new 72 mastercylinder. I also had to plum in seperate front brake lines since the original drums fed off of a single tee'ed line. It was a lot of work and trial and error, but after my 1st test drive tonight i am wearing a big grin from ear to ear. Disc brakes are worth the trouble in my book. I SPENT ABOUT 600.00 IN ALL, BUT I BOUGHT NEW ROTORS,CALIPERS,SPINDAL BEARINGS,HUB BEARINGS,SEALS,BRAKE HOSES,PROPORTION VALVE,MASTERCYLINDER,AND BREAK LINES.
