opinions on grilles!

I have a 1982 gmc sierra and was thinking about going with installing a phantom grille. I also like the stock look, but would like to know what other peoples opinions are. If you think I should keep it the way it is or buy something different?

Re: opinions on grilles!

Personally im not a huge fan of the phantom grills unless its on some slammed custom or something. If it were me I'd probably find a newer GMC grille, I like the years with the turn signals in the bumpers but the grilles that went with them are a little rough on the eyes.

Re: opinions on grilles!

Phantom grilles were the thing to have few years back and if you are going for that older BOYD style then it goes well. The trend now is usually a stock looking retro. Stock appearing with wheels and a drop. Its your truck, do as you like. Just dont paint it pink with daytons. LOL

I think that I am going to get the phantom i havent seen two many that have the turn signal in the bumper with the phantom grille combo. I usually see them with the trun signal in the behind the grille itself.

Re: opinions on grilles!

I went to phantom at first it lookds AWESOME but then I realised there is something missing and yes the angry look of the GMC is missing so I removed it and sold the grille and later saw the billet grille it was much better if the headlight bezels were grey

Re: opinions on grilles!

compromise! leave your stock headlight trim on & go with a billet grille, luv the look of mine. in fact so does gm, check out the stock grille on my '90 stepper, very similar design.

Re: opinions on grilles!

Get the phantom grille and store the stock one in the attic. When you get tired of the new one, put the stocker back on. I'm not a big fan of aftermarket grilles cause none of 'em let you run the chevy logo. Just doesn't look right without it.

Re: opinions on grilles!

Keep the 82 grille, there aren't too many 81-82's around anymore.

Re: opinions on grilles!

Thats the best shot I could find of mine, its an 81 with phantom grill. So you can get an idea of what the grill and bumper with turns looks like.
