LY6 Fuel System questions

I have a 2009 LY6 with a few thousand miles on it attached to a 4L80e transmission. I need some help with someone who's has already done this with running the fuel system. I have a Boyd fuel tank with a built in electric pump if that helps. I'm guessing I use the filter with the built in fuel regulator??? Pics of the current fuel line and what I think is the correct fuel filter. Any help with this would be great!

What size fuel line did everyone use?
What are the size fittings for the Boyd fuel tank?

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

Looks like you on track to me. I used 3/8" s.s. hose and 6AN connectors...replacing what you have there. So it's s.s. hose from tank to filter/reg...and s.s. hose from filter/reg to fitting on the oem steel fuel rail using Russell 6AN adapter. My return is also s.s. hose. Now is all that expensive s.s. hose required? No.....just purdee to look at.

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

Whats the fitting size that connects into the fuel rail? I'm rounding up all the part numbers to order along with the fuel line. Pic attached!

The oil cooler lines are in my way as well for the Porter Built engine mount. Do you know fittings and sizes for that? Thanks

The line size is 3/8", If your going to use AN line......You need a 3/8" Quick disconnect to -6 AN male fitting.

Block off the oil cooler....With one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/LS1-LS2-LS6-...sories&vxp=mtr

Not saying to buy that one....Just an example. You will need a gasket & bolts too.

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

I was hoping to keep the oil cooler and run braided stainless steel lines, otherwise I'll block it off as I won't be towing anything.

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

then keep that oil line block/manifold, remove the tubing, tap for NPT to AN fittings and connect your s.s.hose.

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

I'll warn against using the old design Russel quick disconnect fittings. There have been batches of them that have popped off causing engine fires etc. My pressure fitting popped off (return style system) at the rail and pumped gas right onto the headers. I caught it ASAP and avoided damage but its a sketchy ass problem and Russel REFUSES to aknowledge or recall the problem, despite many cases of total loss (see ls1tech thread on the topic) The re-released the design with a screw on retainer that makes it impossible to pop off.

Not trying to scare you, but it scared the hell out of me.

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

I bought a 3/8 compression to male -6AN fitting to use for the fuel lines.... I haven't run it yet... if the oil lines are 3/8" line you could do the same.

Someone else told me the same thing and said to use these instead. I'm not going to risk an engine fire. Thanks for the advice!

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

Another question. The line with the yellow arrow was used for what in the factory vehicle? It seems like it may have run to the fuel tank as well as some sort of vent line or something? What needs to be done with it now as I have a boyd tank? Thanks in advance!

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

Some states (or local county) require complete emission systems for vehicles that have a motor swap from a newer vehicle. If not required, you can block it off at the intake.

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

Its normally closed, so with the codes deleted and the wire unhooked, it can just sit there. Mine's under an engine cover anyway.

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

Is the filter/ regulator required with the return less system? Maybe a dumb ??? here, but I am running the same set up with a Boyd Welding tank/ and the aeromotive 340 in tank pump. The donor truck had none of that, just a line off the in tank pump to the fuel rail and another line for the vapor canister. Also, I have read a few others having issues with fuel smell without the vapor canister.

The donor truck most likely had a return style system, running a 5/16 line back to the tank. If you switched to a non-return style rail, then you must use the 'vette filter/reg unit (which has a fuel return built in.)

If you are running a performance tune and no cats...its probably gonna smell a little like fuel all the time haha. When I get out of my truck, I smell like the dragstrip after a day of driving. I have no vape cannister, and it doesn't smell any different than any of the pre-emissions cars I've owned, just a lot MORE exhaust.

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

I used a fuel pump from a 2005 truck that has the regulator built in and is designed to work with the returnless system.

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

mcmlxix,
Any chance you can tell me what exact 2005 truck you used that pump off of? I've got an LS6 from a CTSV that's return-less. I'm about to set up my fuel system. Thank you so much. Also if you had an evap line and if you did, what you did with it. Where did you route/send it to? Thank you so much in advance.

Re: LY6 Fuel System questions

Evap lines and solenoids are usually deleted with the emissions stuff unless you live in a tough state.
