Re: Scotts bolt in rack or no limits
I went with a Scott's front end. Here is the install thread that might answer any questions.

Re: Scotts bolt in rack or no limits
I will be getting mine back from Justin soon - I will post on how it handles. I intend to drive the heck out of the truck. He's doing both the front and back suspension, among other things. I can't wait!

Adding a rack to the stock crossmember doesn't gain you much. You still have terrible ground clearance issue for a bagged truck. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=546895

The Scott's xmember kit is a really nice unit. You can't go wrong with it.

Re: Scotts bolt in rack or no limits
Why is that your choice Keith? What do you see wrong with the Scott's unit? Or the no limit unit?
Just curious. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Scotts bolt in rack or no limits
Nothing wrong with Scotts or the No Limit bolt in crossmember.
Both great products. BUT the OP ask about a bolt in rack steering. I can't see spending $800+ dollar just to add a rack to a factory crossmember that hangs too low. For a little over $1k you can get the Dropmember that will work with your existing a-arms and spindles and allow you to use a production 79-93 Mustang rack. Just my opinion. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Scotts bolt in rack or no limits
Flaming River has a 73-87 kit for $2600.
It includes everything. (pump, hoses and brackets) http://www.flamingriver.com/index.ph.../s0008/FR318NC I'm not sure why they specify 73-87. Basically the same frame.

Re: Scotts bolt in rack or no limits
I'm sure he's talking about full xmember set ups. I know the install thread link I posted is of a full crossmember set up. Dan also has the full kit. If you wanting to go really low then crossmember swap is what is best.
My opinion, you know what they say about that lol. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Scotts bolt in rack or no limits
I don't see a bolt in rack from Scotts Hot Rods,... so maybe the OP was talking about bolt-in crossmembers.

Amen to that. Time, money and space. Then remember tranny xmember, gas tank, so many other things to consider. Posted via Mobile Device

When running the extreme Dropmember, the motor is going to move slightly forward and upward. This will require the z-bar mount to be slightly raised. It will also require the clutch linkage rod (that passes through the firewall) to be tweaked a little. Nothing major, but a little bit of work. We would also need to make sure you received the older style shock mounts, as our new style will interfere with the z-bar pivot mount on the frame. I am not 100% sure as I have zero experience with the other kits mentioned (other than what I have read on this forum) but I would verify if the motor placement changes or remains the same. From what I have read on the No Limit kit, it too moves the motor from it's original location. I would assume that the Scott's kit does the same, but recommend discussing this with the vendor to confirm or deny. Our Touring kit and Mild kit move the motor less, so the z-bar mod and linkage mod would be minimal in those applications. You should give us a call if you have a chance so we can discuss the pros and cons of the different kits we offer... just to make sure we can get you the best recommendation that will fit your project/build goals. Re: Scotts bolt in rack or no limits
Does this get you a "tight" steering feel? I can't stand the slop in the steering in these trucks.

Re: Scotts bolt in rack or no limits
The rack conversion, along with the increased castor of the Dropmember will increase steering feel and tighten up the steering a bit.
