u joint help...

Im currently having a leak on tramsnission th350 ony 82 c10
It seems that it comes from the driveshaft
So I took it out and now im trying to take the u joint out to see if thts where the leak is
If not it might be the driveshaft seal , I cant remove the u joint itt has like some kind of plastic going thru the u joint I read another tread about it and I used a small drill bit to
Get rid of the plastic but still im having problems removing them, any one can help me, I havent seen any clips or something that woould hold them down

Well u joints dont leak like that, so there is no reason to take apart your ujoint. What is probably leaking is the rear seal on your tranny. So to fix that take the driveshaft off at the rear diffy and just slide it out of the tranny. You then have access to the rear seal. Pry it out and put in a new one, that should take care of the leak, it it the most common place for a leak to occur back there.

Don't be shocked if changing the seal doesn't fix the leak..If it's anything like the 700r
there is also a bushing in there that goes. Making changing just the seal useless. I'm sure there is someone out hear that can chime in.
It looks like you may have some other leaks going on there too. Speedo cable and the seal around the linkage also leak a lot. I think you'll have too clean it up to see whats going on.

There's also a "Weep hole" in the end of the trans yoke and it seems like it's leaking from the u joint. I think it's some kind of pressure relief. Some people just cover it up with some jb weld, but I've seen other post where they pull the yoke out and seal it from behind. Mine started leaking in the same spot. I was lucky enough to just be able to get away with putting some jb on in between the u joint and spread it on with a knife on the end of the yoke. If you put your pinky in between the u joint and yoke, you should feel a little "dimple" on the yoke. Some have it and some don't. When you do it, jack the rear up to keep trans fluid from seeping out. Worked for me. Good luck.[IMG]20121022_172447[/IMG]

well i installed the new rear seal and put all back together and was able to move the truck around, and i left it out for one hour i went to check and there was no leak, but im not 100 percent sure its gone i will have to check in the morning

that looks like the same 1344 u joints i just replaced on my 82. you just have to knock the piss outta them to break that plastic free, after you get the inside c lips off, of course.

i never saw any c clips on mine i looked for hours but never found them

Best way to get those type apart is heat. Burn out the plastic. Hammer them apart. Put new u-joints back in with inside clips.

they are there, they are on the the inside, i did the same thing. the gap in mine were covered in gunk so you couldnt even tell they were there untill a good wire brushing

ok so i checked this morning and the leak is gone!! so now i spotted two new leaks one from the speedometer and other one from the dipstick,,, anyone know how can i fix them

On the speedo housing...Replace it with a steel one, The original aluminum one is junk. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevy-TH350-...-/130460656670

The dipstick tube has a O-ring seal on the early ones & are bad about hardening.
The later TH350C transmissions use a boot style seal.
Verify which style you have.

ok i checked and found another leak so now i have 3 leaks, and i took pics of where its leaking from, sorry it took me so long, i was fighting my 250 with vacuum hoses, i was able to take it all apart and put it back together in 2 months LoL, now its ready to roll, but one issue i have is the compressor it used to work fine but now it wont work when i turn the ac on, maybe a wire?

It looks like the seal at the linkage..You have to drop the pan to change it.

Mine was leaking in all three of the same places.
