Wiring Assistance Needed with 87 GMC Body on 76 Chassis
I'm in the process of putting an 87 GMC body on a 76 4x4 chassis. I'm having some trouble with the wiring harness.
I've used the old wiring harness from the 76 for the motor(left side on firewall) and the new 87 harness for the cab and chassis(right side on firewall). The motor runs and the headlights and running lights work but I have no power to the power windows. I checked the window regulator plug in the door and have no power there. Funny thing is the power door locks work fine. I checked the fuses and have power going through all of them. The horn doesnt work either. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong? Thanks in advance!

Re: Wiring Assistance Needed with 87 GMC Body on 76 Chassis
remeber that power windows didnt start till 77
so you wont have that plug or needed voltage on your 76 engine wire harness it has enough power to do your locks maybe but not enough for your windows just run a 10g wire from your battery to a 30 amp fuse then to your window thats how i have it in my 74 you also got to remeber that your stock 76 wiring only had basic things, since your trying to merge them together maybe they dont have the same plug just running some ideas thru you

Re: Wiring Assistance Needed with 87 GMC Body on 76 Chassis
There is no part of the wiring for the windows that goes to the motor side of the harness, if ur fuse box has power it should be working, the harness for the power windows is seperate from the rest of the interior harness and should jus have a plug in that ur missing, I have swapped several of these harnesses in these trucks. I will go look at the spare harness I have and make sure were they plug in and make sure.

Re: Wiring Assistance Needed with 87 GMC Body on 76 Chassis
Well I'm not sure what the problem was but after playing around with the plugs at the window switches both sides are now working. Perhaps just a bad contact on one of them. I'm just glad its working.
The only irritating thing now is that on both doors when the windows go up and down there is a creaking noise like the window regulator is not bolted tight and is rubbing on something. I'm going to try and fix that. Thanks for the help guys!

Any time, as for the creeking it probly needs greased, it happens when they sit for a while or when people replace them they don't grease them up, good luck.

Yeah. I did grease both tracks before putting the windows and regulators back in. Still not sure whats causing it but its not too bad.
