I rebuilt the heater controls for my 60 GMC

Made a little progress on my GMC this week. The heater control levers were broken and with x-mas right around the corner buying new ones would be out of the question. So I got to thinking, I work in a machine shop and should be able to figure something out with the scrap we have here. So I found some 7075 scrap and got to work. I left the ends a little long so I can figure out what to do for the knobs and after I got that assembled I took apart the switch and cleaned it up and got it moving again. Here's some pics:





Next on the list is to free up the cables and get the rest of the heater working.

Great job rcbildr....I also just finished rebuilding my heater box from my 60. I removed, sanded, painted all the inside tin and outer box assy, lubed and wire brushed all 3 cables, and solder and repair original heater core from the top tubes...I actually have new knobs I ordered probably about 6 years ago in a bag new... like you said x-mas is around the corner and right now gotta wait to order the control levers.. Mine looks identicle to yours.. I have seen them for about $35.00 plus shipping on the web...I wish there was cheaper way right now..

Thanks everyone!!!! I have since rounded off the front of the levers and I think I'm pretty much done with them...just need to find where I put the knob for the heater switch. I do need to make another set for my 63 chevy truck and probably will try to make as many as I can. But I can't really commit to selling them just yet, I'm having some heath problems and am currently going thru treatment to get healthy again so the next couple months are gonna be pretty rocky for me. I will post updates on these when I can and hopefully in the mean time I can get a membership here. Thanks again!!!!
