Need help w/ truck purchase
Since I blew the motor in my 72 C10 I have been searching the want ads for a 350 or a 305 that I can throw in.... Well I happened to stumble on a local 72 K20 that is in GREAT mechanical condition. Super strong 350ci, muncie sm465. And he wants $600 for it! Problem is the body is shot. He is throwing in fenders (inner AND outer), hood, and a bed that is in great shape!! My question: Can I swap frames (use my C10 on the K20)? My C10 frame is immaculate. The K20 frame has some rust in the rear. Nothing too major, just some scaling and two cross members need replaced under the bed. Also, the C10 has coils, and the K20 has leafs. Will the leafs bolt right up to the C10 frame? Any and all help is appreciated!

Sounds like it is worth $600 anyways, but I don't think your frame and his are the same.

You are in for a major project to try and use your 2wd frame and convert it to a 4x4. It would be far easier to pull the 4x4's motor and put it in your 2wd. You should easily be able to sell the engineless 4x4 with the good sheetmetal pieces fr $600 to $1000 IMO.
Or keep looking for a engine and buy the 4x4 and have 2 projects! If all he wants is $600 for 2 trucks and parts and if you have the space, it's a steal. Take it from somebody who has bought 30+ trucks and parted them, you can't lose.

Scrape the 4x4 idea and just use a 2x4 drive train!
Less parts, better ride, and wow it would be a nice truck! |

Well, I bought the K20. I will post some pics Saturday (if it is raining too hard). The guy has about 5 fenders he is throwing in, 4 inner fenders, a tailgate, a bed, and an awesome hood (even though the hood on the truck is real nice). Plans are to sand blast the frame, Por15 it, and put a good body together. Sounds sooo simple
Will post pics when I get the monster home. Amstaff |
