79' 2wd blazer
Whats up fellas so as the title says I picked up a 79 2wd blazer just yesterday and im pumped to start in on the new project. Last project unfortunately was in a hit and run accident a couple weeks back on the way back from a show. Damn lady swerved in to me on the freeway out of nowhere and drove me in to the gaurd rails. Was totaled so i got a nice little check and also bought back the truck to part out. Def sucks cause I was working on old project for 4 years when it quickly was ended lol. Anyways to the Blazer, plans are to get the body on ground (only way it should be lol). Gonna order up a porterbuilt crossmemeber up front, 22's all around. Gonna keep the back seat cause I have a 3 month old baby. I picked up the truck for 2k. its def a project and is a bit rough but for the price i feel good about the deal since ive wanted a k5 since the beginning of time practically and it runs and drives good. Has a nasty ass hood on it right now but the stock hood also came with truck and that will be the first thing that goes back on. Gonna need to buy door, front panel, bumper, def new top cause mine came with a sweet ass rv air vent lol. This will be a full build since its not my daily or anything. Lots of pics to come once I get into it, I gotta finish up cutting up my old trucks cab today and get it all to scrape so i probably wont touch blazer this week.
heres my old ride just to show you what lead me to get the k5 this was about to go in the dime but i guess i can always use it for this project if I choose to go that way And this is what the s10 looks like now Havent got to do much to the blazer yet with the busy holidays and all that but I did get some goodies in a couple days ago |

Re: 79' 2wd blazer
Sounds good.. I just finished paying off a friend for his Suicide Doors crossmember (basically same as porterbuilt).. Have to redo the motor so I'll be installing the front sometime in the next few months once taxes come back..

Re: 79' 2wd blazer
Finally was able to escape into the garage for a couple hours today. Took all the parts out of the back and put them in storage shed till the blazer is bagged. Got the back seat out and carpet as well as the bolts around the wheel wells and front of the floor after the step up. Maybe tomorrow Ill be able to get the back floor out. Noticed the passenger side quarter panel was replaced at some point...guess that explains why I have a round gas tank hole on a 79 blazer.

Re: 79' 2wd blazer
Took the old top off and got the new top home. Sold the cowl hood too. Once I got the old top off I found a couple little cancer spots so ill cut those pieces out and fix them. All together this and one spot on tailgate is only rust ive seen so thats good.
bye bye cowl hood old top new top On this last pic you can see the closest peice to the dash on the column is completly broke off. Does anyone know if that is replaceable or not on a 79? I looked through lmc and it looks like you can but only years 84-91. |

Re: 79' 2wd blazer
I don't think you can get a new replacement. I bought a tilt column for my 79 but had to return it when it arrived with that piece broken.

Re: 79' 2wd blazer
Looks like you came out ahead. The k5 will be much sweeter than the s10 when you're done.

Re: 79' 2wd blazer
Looking good over there! You have a lot of work ahead of you, but the way that S-10 looked before you cracked it up, I am sure you will bring that old Blazer around. Ever think of having a rendering done? I had one done on my Blazer by a local guy. He did a really nice job for a reasonable price. Greg

Re: 79' 2wd blazer
Got it. Those look pretty cool. I do not know anyone, I just thought I would offer the guy that did mine. Sounds like you are all set then. Are you going to have one done, or do you pretty well know where you are headed?
