Color code needed
Getting ready to paint my 71 GMC rebuild. I have a picture of the color I want (attached) and it looks like an original GM color. The codes I see that are close are 505 Dark Green and 506 Dark Olive Poly. May even be custom color. Can anyone give a picture or tell me which color is in photo.

Re: Color code needed
Looks like dark olive, which is metallic, to me, but that's not the original paint on that truck, so it could be a shade off like alot of repaints are. I was thinking dark green is a solid, non metallic color.
I know this one is dark olive, original paint.

Re: Color code needed
Here are pictures of the 505 and the 506. The 506 Dark Olive Poly is a metallic has a noticeable gold effect. The 505 Dark Green is a true solid color.

Re: Color code needed
Thanks for the info. The truck I am painting was originally blue. Does anyone have an opinion on what changing the color does to the value. The truck has the original cab, motor and frame. I am not going to show it but may sell down the road.

Re: Color code needed
Color changes are really something to avoid if there is any possibility of selling it. Now some colors are desirable and some are appreciated by very select groups. Your factory blue probably has a wider market than any of the correct greens. A red or an orange might do better with a high quality color change. But the often seen white only on the outside cover-up type will cost you money. Nothing makes me want to walk on a truck faster than primer, guide coated primer or satin black hides all paint jobs.

Re: Color code needed
Think I am going back to blue. The original is a code 510 Medium Blue but I like the 523 Dark Blue better. Would anyone have pictures of those colors on a finished truck so I can compare. I can find pics on net but can't find any that actually says the color is a factory code color.

Re: Color code needed
This is my old blue truck. It's the 510 medium blue, of course it's a different paint code since it's 2 toned with white, but you get the idea.

Re: Color code needed
Thanks, That looks like my original color but as you say my code little different because of solid color. I will keep looking for the 523 Dark Blue to compare.

Re: Color code needed
Here are the darker 523 based pictures. As you can see the colors are close in actual use. The best thing to do is once you have narrowed things down to two colors like this without a clear choice is buy a little of each and shoot a panel on each bedside. Then you can compare them in various lighting conditions.
Now there were also codes 557 dk blue/med blue and 558 med blue/dk blue custom two-tones (roof only).
