Creative Corner, Building FURNITURE out of truck parts?
Throw out your idea's of using truck parts to create unique furniture for your Man Cave. I mean we all have extra somethings or have access to pieces that could be incorporated into furniture. I think we've all seen Dino's benches. What creative thought's have you had taking a second look at your junk pile!
I have a dinged 63 aluminum grill I'd someday turn into a light for above the dinner table. Thought of some Halogen reflectors sockets to replace the old seal beams. I've seen axle's used as table legs. I used some Big's and Small mounted Mickey Thompson's as end tables and a coffee table. Bought glass disks at WalMart. There was a nice shelving unit made with the rear section of a Fleetside box that opened and closed to conceal the contents of the shelves on Craigslist. The tail light's even lit up! What have you created?

Not really that creative but I have this hanging in my room in at our college house. I've been going through old chargers to find one I can wire up and make the lights work, just haven't found the right one and I'm too cheap to spend $10 on amazon.

Now that they sell the fleetside taillight panels, wanna set up tailgate and lights in garage for work bench when down, then decor up. Seems I use the tailgate more for bench than Anything else... sure the chains are laying around somewhere.

I'm making a headboard out out of a back of a cab and using a tailgate for the footboard for my son who is truck crazy. I will post some pics as I go. He has already claimed my 64 for his. Only 9 more years and he can drive!

I have Goldilocks' grill on the mantle in my bedroom... Kinda hate the fact that I'll have to take it down one day when I start reassembly!

Re: Creative Corner, Building FURNITURE out of truck parts?
Right now I'm making a set of coat hooks out of pistons and rods. Someone on here has a towel rack made out of some camshafts welded together held up by rods. My older brother made a seat for our living room out of the backseat of a nissan 240sx. I'm working on the same thing, but with an old Ford bench seat. I'll get some pictures up when they are finished.

Re: Creative Corner, Building FURNITURE out of truck parts?
I've had that picture saved on my pc for a while. I've just been waiting on a block. We've had a little 2.0l that I didn't think would look good enough and my girlfriends inline 6 from her cherokee, but she ended up selling it. One of these days... Oh I forgot, my cousin made a guitar stand out of some random parts. I'll try to have him send me a pic.

A guy I work with just picked up a used V8 engine block to make a wine rack ...
never imagined him to be a wine drinker ... LoL he's more into Jack & the Captain ... If I ever come across a second good fleetside bed I wanted to cut it down into a couch. Use the wheel tubs as arm rest, hinge the back panel and tailgate and make it a recliner ... |

Re: Creative Corner, Building FURNITURE out of truck parts?
I haven't used any 60-66 truck parts yet, but here's what I've made thus far.
I made these lamps for the family room a couple of weeks ago out of a pair of Ford 4V intake cams, timing gears from a Tbird SC and a '98 Monte Carlo, oil pump gerotors from a Ford 3.8L, and a spacer from a Ford 5.0L. The lampshades that the girlfriend bought cost me twice as much as the lamp parts. I also welded up a little hanger for my droplights out of a pair of Ford 3.8L SC rockers and a SBC pushrod. Then there's always the wall of carnage in my garage at home. I made those parts with nothing but my right foot. I have a pair of fenderwell headers for my SBC-powered CJ-7 and a blower belt from a 8-71'd BBC hanging in the shop...that's pretty much the extent of the "wall art" over there. I used that trick to get the girlfriend to let me "temporarily" store a new pair of tires in the family room. Temporarily = two years so far. |

I love the end table! And I have plenty of old parts laying around, thanks for the ideas.

Re: Creative Corner, Building FURNITURE out of truck parts?
Anybody make any new furniture over the past couple years?
I whipped up this coat rack for the wife's birthday about 18 months back out of a nice piece of teak, pushrods from a SBC, and some peened sheetmetal. And for the family room, a new coffee table. It really ties the room together. That's the spare engine block and heads for the Coug. It's a 32-valve aluminum Teksid 4.6L, which goes well with the 32V camshaft lamps on the end tables. |
