15 seconds of Fame

My last Daily driver was a 1955 Chevy Wagon that I restored in 13 months from rust bucket to show winner, but was waaay too nice to toss the hounds in and travel the countryside. My work, Guaranty Chevrolet in Junction City, was very helpfull allowing me to work on it before work, lunch hours, after work and most weekends. I had our body and paint shop restore the outside and I handled all of the mechanicals and farmed out the uphoulstery. It turned out great and they wanted to use it in their ad campaign and also for our local show and cruise, The Function for Junction. The show draws 700-1000 cars and trucks and thousands of people every year, it's usually a sell out and always standing room only down main street for the cruise. I sold the 55 and purchased " a Suburban in a basket". Guaranty Chevrolet was there to help. They let me again work on my daily driver indoors, making sure it was moved out in time for the Technicians to use their stalls the next morning. Some of the overhaul had to be done at home as to not interfere with productivity and getting customers back on the road. Well, this year they asked to borrow the Burb for a photo shoot for the new Dealer ad's and to market the Function for Junction, I was honored. Here is one of the many shots they took, staging different cars, trucks and layouts.

Thanks guys, I found the one used for the wagon. You can see the difference of the old Dealership and the new. We just went through a GIAGANTIC makeover with an entirely new showroom, Service Center and internal office expansion. Guaranty Chevrolet has never been nicer!

That about says it. Congrats on the pics, and employer sounds like a great company to work for.
BTW I love the roof rack on your 55. Did you build it? I need to start looking for one for my 55 dodge (i couldn't afford a chevy) wagon.

Its an original Carter rack. Micheal ( grandson of original company owner) is still remaking the racks under Classic Racks or www.classicracks.com Awsome guy to deal with and some neat history.

Employer is the best. I have great managers and the owner is an on site guy who you see everyday. He restored and occasionaly drives his 67 GTO. We used to be Pontiac, Olds and Chevrolet but now just Chevrolet with crossline warranty coverage on all GM lines including Cadillac and the former Saturn/Hummer lines.

That's just plain awesome. Very cool the dealership management is in tune with the classics. And the truck looks great against GM's new dealer appearance scheme.

Have you been lucky enough to find any NOS parts through GM? When I redid the '57 I was working for a dealership. I bought a new park light and lens, new tailgate, chains, and covers, engine mount bushings and washers, and wiring harness clips from GM by carefully following the chain of part numbers. The dealership had NOS parts in stock including the dome light lens, brake and clutch pedal pads, bumpers, generator brackets which also helped.

Ah fond memories of JC, we used to cruise over from Eugene and try and pick up girls. Spent way too much time at Fern Ridge. In 98 I sold about a dozen cars to the vintage wrecking yard there, they were my Dad's "retirement" that he had left out in the rain for 30+ years. Also sold my 39 chevy pickup that I thought was to far gone (know better now). When is the Cruise? I went a couple of years ago with a friend who lives just outside Cheshire.

I have been curious what part of Oregon you were in.
I grew up in north part of Eugene.........Guarantee Chevrolet has been there forever.
JC was nothing but car dealers and junk yards (and the railroad trains)........we used to stop at the A & W for root beer floats. My dad worked at Dunham Olds , downtown Eugene (they sponsored my Soap Box Derby car back in the 60s).

Born, raised and Native Eugene/Springfield. I worked at Small World Auto after High School, Riverside Pont Olds VW Mazda through college and Romania Chevy for 11 years before the sell out. I have been around new car Dealerships all of my life with a short 4 year stint with Harley Davidson, mostly writing service but now running the RV and Auto body shop
